Laguna Beach is a fabulous place -- and less than 100 miles from where I live. I hope the weather was good while you were there. We've had good and awful weather over the past month. Thanks for your kind words! |

Happy New Year to you Steve! I really like the "colored pencil" texture that you've applied here. Was that from Topaz Studio 2? I'm less fond of the not-so-perky blossoms, but that's just my personal bias against wilted flowers. I've tried to see the beauty in the textures of dying flowers, but, alas, all it does is make me sad that they're past their prime. Sorry! You did do a very nice job of combining the various photos so that everything is seamless. :) |

Your original photo is lovely. I really like the way the light is sort of shining through the petals. That aspect has been lost in your final image, so I would suggest trying to create an abstract, but maintain the ethereal beauty of the original petals, if possible. The harsh green lines in your final are also less appealing to me than a softer look, but that's just personal preference. Abstracts are difficult to critique; each person sees them through their own personal preference lens. |

A very beautiful scene Frans. The aurora looks very natural to the scene and you did a nice job integrating it. The big house is stunning with all its pretty lights. The small lit houses are very charming in the foreground. I hope your dream of having a white Christmas comes true in the future. |

This is a fun and surreal scene. The landscape is so interesting with its peaks and valleys, and the wild colors top everything off nicely. Well envisioned and carried out. |

Very cool composite Mike. You did a great job making all the elements match in the direction the light was striking them. The elements all go well with each other too. My only nitpick would be to add a bit of shadow under James' shoes and hand where they contact the roof beams, just to ground him into place. A fun and well done project for sure! |

Thanks Mike. I think you're right. I didn't lighten my husband because I wanted the bright window to really stand out from the rest of the scene, but he's blending too much into the background as it is. I'm glad you think the balloons add to the surrealism. I pondered using a bird to be pulling the window but decided I use birds so often that I needed to find another alternative. |

Thanks Carol. The dark spot on her ear is actually a mole, but I see what you mean. I like your suggestion to keep more of her neck in the composition. |

This image has a lot of cool attitude Mary. To me, the most expressive part is above Katie's hands in her pockets. The area below there seems a bit too busy to contribute effectively to the interesting body language above. The high contrast works in my opinion, and seemed to suggest a pencil sketch. For fun I cropped up from the bottom and used PS Graphic Pen filter. Just a different take on your artful photo. |

Hi Connie. Lovely blossom, and the lighting is so nice. I really like the color tweak you made. My eye was drawn to the two light spots on the left edge and it seemed to me the main stem might look nice at a greater angle, so I rotated the image to accomplish both. It occurred to me that it might work to embrace the graininess and change the mode to black and white, so I gave it a try. I used PS poster edges to bring in more detail and then oil paint to smooth out some of the grunge that resulted. Then into On1 to convert to BW so I could control the dark/light balance. The background was now very dark, so I added a keyline. Just another possible direction to go with the beautiful blossom you captured. |

The detail you achieved in the blossom is exquisite. The colors are so lovely. I agree with Connie and Denise about the thick stem and pink edge. I think a darker vignette would lead the viewer's eye straight to the gorgeous blossom and interesting leaves. All in all, wonderfully photographed and processed. |

Love this beautiful, serene landscape. The leading lines are so dramatic. The textures of the water and sand are brought out nicely. I do agree with Denise that the top could be cropped off. There's a lot of noise in the dark part of the cloud, and with a wider ratio it feels more like a grand panorama. I can only imagine how peaceful it must have been in this lovely location. |

The colors do really pop and I think your painterly edits are lovely. The sunlight on the pumpkin is magical. My eye keeps getting drawn to the light area at the top, so it might work to crop off that little bit of sky so it doesn't compete with the beautiful pumpkin. Very well composed, shot, and edited! |

Thanks for your kind words Denise. I see what you mean about her chin being too close to the bottom. There was plenty of room in the original; I just cropped it too aggressively. |
