Thanks for asking and engaging, Brian. I considered a mask as well, but I wanted something more funky. I thought her body posture conveyed an attitude of "buzz off people," so the strip and the title were what I came up with to carry that concept through. I like viewers to come up with their own interpretations of my images too though, so feel free to make of it whatever you wish! |

Thanks Steve. I'm already floundering with next month's image. I'm trying to finish early, as I'm scheduled for double cataract surgery at the end of the month. I think I'm in one of those "dry" phases creatively. Need to find new sources of inspiration I guess. |

This is lots of fun Brian. I also like Original 2 better than your final, but I can see why your granddaughter preferred the one with more going on. I think the application of a few shadows under the gnomes would help anchor them to their respective perches. The gnomes wearing the sunglasses are a cool addition -- sort of gives the whole scene a Blues Brothers vibe. Nicely composited! |

I agree with all of the previous comments. I'm not usually a fan of horse images, but you did such a great job of giving this one beautiful moody lighting that you gave him a certain je ne sais quoi. The catch light in his eye gives him a nice spark. Well done. |

Old vehicles are always a source of wonderful textures. I always consider it a fun find when I run across one while out on a walk in my neighborhood. The rustier, the better. You've done a nice job with this old character. I don't really feel the added texture was necessary because it covered up the nice greenery around the wheel. Just to have a bit of fun, I tried applying my go-to PS Poster Edges to your original. I find that it usually adds nice detail. I also applied a very slight Oil Paint filter (because I couldn't help myself). In Nik Viveza I reduced the exposure and increased the contrast and structure. In On1 I added a light vignette. Back in PS I dodged the shadows and midtones on the grill a bit. Thanks for providing a fun image to play with. You've done a nice job with your version and I love your subject matter! |

You've created an image with a popular effect to it. For my taste, it's a bit too far to be realistic, but that's just me. The tone mapping made a huge improvement in his eyes. In the original they were kind of lifeless and flat, but your final version makes them pop and they've become a very expressive part of the piece. You also did a good job of uncluttering the background. Just to play a bit, I opened both versions in PS and placed the tone mapped version over the original. When I reduced the opacity of the tone mapped version to 72%, it seemed to create a nice compromise between the two extremes, but again, just to my personal taste. Thanks for the detailed description. Well done! |

Oh I like yours much better. I love seeing the details of the Rocket, especially knowing it's something you made by hand. |

Gosh, you did a great job of bringing out the color and detail of the frog Candy. He's a cutie. I like the treatment you applied to the truck, but it seems to me that the front and rear glass need to be nearer to their original hue and texture so they look different from the metal of the truck. You really neatened up the pine needles nicely and did a good job of integrating the frog into them. He could use a close shadow right under his chin, similar to the leaf in front of him. Very nice composite - well done! |

I love your matchstick Rocket Steve! You're obviously a detail oriented hobbyist. You did a great job of integrating the three background images into one. I really like the impressionistic treatment you applied, but it seems to have made the motion blur mostly disappear. I'm not sure it's really needed though. My only suggestion would be to give the Rocket a bit more breathing (or steaming) room at the top. Love the coloration and mood in this. Nicely edited! |
