Personally, I like the angle of your pumpkin. It's much more detailed and interesting than it would be from a straight-on shot. And it's fun to see your interpretation put a different spin on Magritte's piece. |

Thanks Georgianne. And my husband thanks you too! We both enjoy the Steampunk costumes that other people wear but we haven't gotten into doing that ourselves. The Goth weekends that Steve goes to often include Steampunk costumes as well, it seems. If you do Google searches for Steampunk costumes or Steampunk art, you'll see many more clever examples of this fun genre. The imaginative contraptions people come up with are a hoot. |

Welcome to Group 34, Denise! Your image is wonderful. You did a great job of isolating the model from the original background; she looks perfectly at home in her new surroundings. The brightening of her face is a lovely improvement. The reflection is just right. I like the way you darkened the too-bright areas of the background and made the artifacts become more prominent. A beautifully executed composite! |

Your experimentation description is great, Phil. You're very good at using tools and techniques that I never seem to even think of using. I like that you rotated the image so the stem is on the bottom and got rid of the light areas in the background. I like Georgianne's version because the dark background appeals to me a bit more than the bright green. |

The colors and detail on the turkey are wonderful. Doing what you did to the background made him stand out beautifully. |

I like your image very much Helen. The simplicity of the pumpkin on the silhouette appeals to me I think more than a front-facing version would. The sky is very expressive and adds a lot to the composition. Just for fun I applied a couple of painting filters in PS (watercolor and then oil). You can't really see the paint effects in this small version, but they do show up in the larger version. Thanks for introducing us to Magritte's work and showing us where you got your inspiration. Nice composite! |

Wow, this is extreme Steampunk! I wouldn't want to be wearing that get-up. My husband and I are big fans of Steampunk art, not so much into wearing costumes ourselves. Here's a lamp he made recently. The red sprinkler handle is the turn on switch. |

I would love to visit Whitby! The likelihood is pretty slim since we were there (England, anyway) a few years ago. Your Steampunk lady portrait is very nice. I'll have to visit vicariously through your image captures! |

Thanks very much Alan. I checked out your image for this month and it's very impressive. Lots of symbolism there. I especially like the way you turned the figure on the left with the light so that he's not facing forward as in the original. Which tool did you use to do that? It's much better that he's facing the other figures on the right. Well done! |

Well Steve, you say it was all quite simple and quick to process, but I think that's just because you have gotten so good at doing it. It's really a great lesson in portrait enhancement to open all your originals and your final, and then click back and forth among them to see the subtle changes you made with each version. Your use of the liquify tool to give her a slight smile was fabulous. I agree with Georgianne, you produced a work of art from a snapshot. Beautifully executed! |

I really like the idea of keeping the red stripes and the two "hot" words in the otherwise black/white image. Street photography with a twist. To my eye the trashcan in the foreground, the bright highlighted street around it, and the shops on the other side of the street detract from the quaint scene of the strolling people and the retro eatery, so I might have just cropped the right side off. Your Topaz Impressions treatment gave it a cool grunge factor that worked well when you converted it to black and white. Nicely done! |
