Your story about the picture reminded me of getting lost in Joshua Tree National Park and panicking. Once I calmed down I was able to get back to the parking lot. It was scary. While the rock is photogenic I feel that the foliage beyond doesn't let you emphasize it as is should be. The rock is so close to the bank that it wouldn't be possible to isolate it. the coloring, in this case, is too dominate and draws attention away from the rock. A hint of blue would be better. |

I like the sepia tone as it makes the scene a bit different than a straight b/w. Where you stood for the picture was perfect, not only does the upper part of the fountain stand out against the sky but the shape of the trees on both sides gently takes the view to the fountain. All is working for you with this image. |

What I immediately liked with this was the feeling of relaxing and enjoying the serene scene. I could easily visualize sitting on the beach and just enjoying the calm water and surrounding trees and clouds. Would it help if there was someone, something in that open space to give the eye a concrete object to draw attention? Maybe, but at the end I would leave everything alone. |

There is a haunting atmosphere to this with the dark surroundings and bars on the window. Is it a jail cell or just an interesting room in an old building? It makes the viewer wonder, which is good as I kept looking at it trying to decide. Thus for me it conveys a feeling of aloneness and being confined. I really like it when a photograph generates strong emotions and yours does. |

This has all the elements for an enjoyable scene, foliage, live animals and a man made structure. Why it doesn't resonate with me is that the tree takes up almost half of the scene and the building seems to be crowded into the remaining space. I only wish there was a way to subdue it. |

It certainly is an interesting structure as it has a triangular shape which more or less ties the different shaped facets together. In this instance I don't feel the color adds to the presentation. The lines of the various parts are so graphic that a straight b/w would stand out. Were it mine I'd experiment with adding contrast to make some of the structure really stand out. After all, it is not a "pretty" building as it was built for a specific neded. |
