It appears to be a hard subject to photograph but you did a good job as both boats stand out. Saying that, the rowboat makes the scene as it gives an interesting subject to look at in addition to the sailboat. It is a good story telling picture. Your comment about liking to make b/w from IR is my own philosophy. B/W is what I "see" when I am shooting IR. |

Usually IR doesn't do justice to people but in this case it did. It is a pleasing scene and the steps that you took to achieve the final high key effect really worked. The touch that, for me, makes the scene is that the girl is holding a doll. It makes the scene more casual and not one that was carefully arranged. |

You certainly came up with an unusual image. It is good to experiment and get away from the usual route. As long as you, the maker, like the results it doesn't matter how others feel toward it. I compliment you trying something new and different. |

By using IR the grass and foliage in the background turns white so the gravestones really stand out, as they should. Your original has some space between the last stone on the right and the edge of the frame but your cropping eliminated it. My suggestion is to either not crop the space out or totally crop out the entire stone. I like what you saw as there is a difference in all the stones, the nearest is tilted forward, the next has a plant in front and the third isn't tilted as much as the first one. All this makes for an interesting picture. |

Having entered as well as judged exhibitions I feel that a picture need impact to be accepted. There isn't time for the judges to study each and every image so it needs to "grab" attention in order to be accepted in an exhibit. I say this as your picture requires studying in order to make a judgment. A quick look would miss some of the salient parts like a tree growing in the corner, the unusual steps to the door and the sizable gap between the door and the top step. So, this is an unusual subject but I don't feel that an infrared rendition creates a more unusual result than a conventional b/w rendition. All in all I find it quite interesting as you no doubt did since you took the time to photograph it. |
