Each time I look at this I see more. Your conversion to IR created an interesting play of lights and darks. The trees on the left slope are all light whereas the ones on the right slope have this interesting play of light as the area at the top is all light and some of the rest are just getting the sunlight. It is this gentle spreading of light that makes the pictures come alive. |

I have mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand the arch and stonework on its left make for a good scene. However, the fence line on the right disturbs me as the tendency is to "follow it" rather than concentrate on the arch. One thought is to crop the picture on the right at the stonework (it has a groove for perhaps a gate) to eliminate much of the fences. I then wondered if the picture would be stronger if you flipped it horizontally to put the arch on the left. |

Castles fascinate me and on trips to Europe I delighted visiting and photographing them. Your rendition of this one is perfect as the gatehouse and trees on the left bring one into the scene then moves to that gigantic building that is so huge trees can't conceal it! In fact the trees add some mystery to the scene and one wonders what the castle looks like behind them. Your conversion is very good as you kept the trees light which adds contrast to what could be a largely gray scene. (I wish I was there to photograph with your!) |

I very much like both the original and the IR version as the lighting brings out both the bright areas as well as the shadow areas. Personally, I'd like to se the IR version with the stem as it makes the orchid more realistic if you showed how it was standing. The lighting on the stem gives it a nice glow which would enhance the IR version even more. Which to enter? As a b/w lover I go for the IR as it is very distinctive and stands out. |
