I like this composition very much and applaud the inclusion of so much sky, which creates the drama in this presentation.
For sharpening I use Topaz Sharpen AI which allows you to select the subject so that you can sharpen the bird only. |

Great capture, nice and sharp.
Definitely crop from the right to eliminate that extra splash. |

I love the simplicity of this image showing the vastness of the salt flats. The red truck provides a perfect balance.

Very colorful and well captured at the right moment. More light in her face would help.
I would crop just behind the gentlemans head to eliminate the cars and that figure in the background. |

This is great use of your drone, and shows a perspective that I would never be able to create.
The horizon is straight but the building is tilted to the left. Obviously due the position and angle of the drone. Is there any way of overcoming this?
The parking lot does not bother me but you could easily clone some grass over this area. |

The shadow really makes this image a winner for me. Also like the colors shining through the wings.
Congratulations on you fast reflexes to capture this one. |

Thanks for the comments. I agree that a closer crop would emphasize the calf. But that would cut away half the ear which I did not want to do. |

Well done getting close enough that you didn't need to crop. More reflection would have been nice, but the pelican is sharp and well positioned in the frame. Congrats on not blowing out the whites. |

Very brave (or stupid) to leave the vehicle when wild animals are around. In South Africa this is strictly forbidden and the guides would never allow it. However your results are spectacular because of the eye contact with your subject.
I will second Diane's comment about you being the Lion King! |

I like the composition with the beak in the water and the wave behind the bird.
Your problems with the lighting mentioned by Pierre is due to the time of day that you took this picture when the light is very harsh. Try to do your bird photography during the first couple of hours after sunrise or before sunset. |

Judges at our club competitions often criticize rear views of birds or animals. But I think this composition works well as you are showing the whole bird including those rear white feathers. This is a Purple Gallinule - the swamphen is a different bird and is slightly larger. Usually seen in pairs or small groups.
To adjust the greens: Camera raw - select subject, inverse. then work on the green saturation which you can slide to the left to de-saturate. Also use the next green slider to darken the greens.
If you are still in Costa Rica with Reinier, he will be more than happy to help you.

I also agree with the tighter crop. The second bud does not add anything to the story.
The lighting on this bud is excellent. Well seen and well done that you were not totally overwhelmed by the sunset! |
