What a weird looking building, which I would not have understood without your explanation. The graffiti adds color where it is needed. |

A simple image that works so well. I like your vertical presentation, and the boat adds the spot of gold! |

As soon as this picture came up I was distracted by the big grey rocks in the foreground. I like Bob's first crop as it emphasizes the root structure which is the most interesting part of the scene, and probably what caught your eye in the first place. |

Your crop does work well by eliminating some of the distracting objects. Thank you. |

I like both versions. But the best feature in each case are the eyes which are so sharp and clear. I guess the distractions in the background are less noticeable in the b&w version.
I would clone or crop the leaf on bottom left corner. |

I find that rust makes such an interesting subject, and here you are showing us patterns, shapes, tones and texture. This image is so much stronger than trying to show us the whole car.
Well seen and beautifully processed. |

Thank you for your comments. I have removed the distracting branches, lightened the black feathers and cropped much closer.
What do you think of his version? |

Geoff, thank you for sharing this information about wallabys in the Outback. I had always assumed that all wallabys were the same species, so its good to know that there are different types.
I love the crop and the detail in their eyes, both mom and little Joey peeping out of her pouch. The rocks seem to complement the colors of the animals and the background is good and unobtrusive. Pity about the tail though! |

Brenda, the heron is beautifully presented. There is action, the eye is perfect and the background is well handled with no distractions.
But the crop of the leg does bother me. Either crop even more to just below the knee, or my preference would be to keep the top of the post and foot. Not ideal for a nature competition, but would look more natural to me. Ah.. life is always about compromises! |

Jacob, this is your best picture so far. Well done. Your b&w conversion works well and you have done a great job eliminating the background and allowing the flower to "float".
I have extended the canvas at the top so that the petal does not touch the edge of the frame and added 2 pixel white stroke. I think this gives it a better finish. What do you think? |

What an unusual rendition of the heron, the fog adding a different dimension. I would like to see just a tad more contrast in the neck to provide just a little more definition. |

Beautiful color palette and I love the highlights in the eyes which draws me straight in to this gorgeous animal. I do understand that it was far away, but I would still try to crop the left side to exclude that large rock in the top left corner. The rest of the rocks are not as distracting, and the shadow does add to the image. |

Hi Dean,
I see this as 2 pictures, because of the distance between the 2 birds and the lack of interaction between them. I would suggest concentrating on one of the birds, perhaps the one on the right which shows some movement with its leg in motion. You will have to clean up some of the distracting grasses below and behind the beak.
Maybe it will require too much effort to be worthwhile!! |
