Thanks for the explanation and method used. Every time that I think of converting slides I realize that I have so many digital images that are probably better quality and taken with more up to date equipment! |

Thanks for your comments, Stephen. Yes, I go back about every 3 years as my wife still has family in Johannesburg. Our recent trip included a wedding and a Barmitzvah. |

I love the color palette that you have chosen in this image. The filters do add interest to the composition. My only complaint is the bright leaf going from the center towards the left corner, which can easily be toned down. |

The blue and white stripes of the ceiling make this picture as they catch my eye immediately. Your centrally placed composition with perfect symmetry works well in this composition. You obviously have a good eye for architecture and this image is no exception. |

I prefer your original color version. The black & white is too gray or monotone. It needs more contrast to provide more definite blacks and whites. Did you try using 'levels' in photoshop? How do you do your b&w conversion? |

Your panning effect works so well here in this image to convey a sense of speed and action. And as you mention, the one clear face makes the picture special and is sharp enough for me. |

Bob, this is an excellent picture. Your composition is spot on with nice balance between he 2 balloons. I also find your color palette gorgeous, especially the balloon reflections in the water. I don't mind the dark building on the left as it forms a silhouette against the balloon on that side. The mountains help to provide a clean unobtrusive background.
How are you doing your conversion from slides? I also have thousands that I have often thought of converting with a scanner but have never been happy with the results. |

Jacob, I love the color palette displayed in this image. You have handled the background well by having it out of focus with some pink showing through. I also cropped the picture and saturated the colors a little more by darkening the pinks. |

Well done with your conversion from film. I would never have guessed as you have not lost any sharpness. How do you do your conversion? See Bob Benson's suggestion this month in group 26. |

Brenda, I didn't mean a panther on the path, but rather a separate image of a panther. You were in a panther reserve. Are there caged panthers there or just the park named for panthers? I don't think it is necessary to have an object - animal or human on the path as I believe this image can stand on its own as it is. |

Thanks Candy. There was a slight breeze which probably explains the movement in the grass at 1/200 secs. |

I don't know if I have a favorite, probably cheetah, although you don't get to see them that often. I did observe a cheetah kill many years ago when I still lived in South Africa. But I love watching elephants especially at a waterhole, when you can watch them interacting with each other. You will see lots of elephant pictures from me in the coming months! |

Geoffrey, I used the history brush, multiply at about 30% opacity, to darken the lower half of the picture around the legs and the leaves on the right. What do you think? |

I have increased the contrast as you suggested, Geof, but I don't want to make the elephants any brighter. They are generally much darker, but here in the early morning light are already too light for my taste. |

The eyes have it. They are so sharp and bright that they draw me into the picture, and make me less aware of the other distractions. Unfortunately, we can't always choose where our subjects are placed when it comes to wild life. The curve of the tail is an added feature to your composition. |

Brenda, this is a very inviting scene. The curve in the path at the end definitely helps the composition. It is well processed, and I agree with the warming effect. Of course I would rather have seen the panthers! Maybe another month? |

I love the patterns especially the formation of a "delta".
I think the picture needs more contrast, and perhaps darken the sea in the background. The gulls help the composition by providing another level of interest. |

I'm pleased that we don't have to endure these cold conditions here in Florida, but we do miss out on these beautiful snowy landscapes. This is simple and well seen.
I agree with previous comments about the twig top right- I would clone out and not crop as that would affect the balance of your composition.
Incidentally, I shot a similar tree recently in England, without the snow, but with one yellow flower growing in the hole. Maybe I will submit in a future month. |

Dean, you have captured a great image. The flower and bee are perfectly sharp. I am enjoying your composition, and commend you on keeping the blue flowers to form a base and the second flower in the background. Your macro lens and f stop has handled the background very well.
Did you have to get down onto the ground to shoot this? I'm always afraid that I won't be able to get back up! |
