Bill… I do prefer the final adjustment suggested by Bruce; I think this is because it provides the source of the light. The small human in red adds scale to the enormous of the structure. Well done! |

Bruce, I actually like both versions (B&W and Color) of your image. This looks like a tough heavy job. Nice side lighting to bring out the muscular features of the young man. I also like your camera position. Nice balanced composition with the man on the thirds. Great shot. |

Heidi, tis' the season! It's good to push the limits to see what you and your camera can do. The kids faces are a little soft and it appears the camera has focused of the snowflake and candy cane at the foreground. I do like the expression on the children's faces and the uplifted arms. |

Sally, first to answer your question. I typically use denoise first then sharpen (otherwise you would be sharpening the noise.) Again you would use sharpen at the end of all your edits to add crispness to the image. Your submission this month is challenging to all photographers- low light, moving subjects and artificial lighting, and hand held, high ISO's contributing to color noise. It's encouraging to push your limits to see what you can do with the equipment you have. That said, I think you captured the spirit of the festivities. I like the two nutcracker soldiers to the left and would have isolated them as the subject; turn your camera to vertical mode and snapped away. Keep on experimenting - that's how you develop. |

Great story line, Isaac. One can conclude that the daughter will eventually look like the mother. Nice camera position - the eye level of the camera looks to be around the shoulders. I like the color version and the colors of the image are harmonious with the environment. It makes the viewer wonder why they are mesmerized by their phones. The square crop is in keeping with the symmetry of the subject/s. Well seen and a sad reflection to the world today. |
