Bill, great picture. I like the complementary colors of yellow and blue. You caught the action and the sticks on fire in mid air. I agree with Isaac's adjustments. The crop resulted in a square with the subject placed on the thirds. I think the blue banner adds to the image and serves to keep the eye moving around. Your shutter speed was well chosen and adds a slight blur to show motion on the hockey sticks. Good to see the world getting back to being normal again. |

Ed welcome to the group. Lovely story and the young man showing respect for the solemn occasion. I like the vertical crop of the image and the subject placed to one side and off center. The wreaths and monument adds to the story. The red poppies ties the image together. The sidewalk provides some negative space for the eye to rest. Well done! |

Bruce.. intriguing lighting and shapes formed by the trapezoid tent. I really see this as a silhouette of shapes and offer a B&W version. I cropped out the white chair on the right side of the image and used a crop ratio of 1.618:1 (golden rectangle). The mens' heads are on the thirds. Cleaned up the debris on the floor. Oh used dehaze and clarity to try to bring out some of the tones in the image. The tea kettles are a nice touch and gives us a clue as to the activity going on. Now I really like it! |

Welcome to the group Heidi, I look forward to seeing your images. After all the different versions, I think that Isaac's second version works well. Compositionally we are left with a group of five with the main group forming a pleasing triangular shape. I like the point of view of the camera - suggesting that you probably got low to the center of attraction. Nice story line with the sound of music in the air. |

Sally, I agree with the comments of the others and the adjustments to your image. The B&W version suggested by Ed is interesting, but since you commented on the differences in color of jade I felt the color version added to the story. I also like the complementary red tablecloth and strong green post which adds to your image. I am surprised that at 1/10 sec your image is so sharp. Nice job! |

Well done Isaac! Clear and defined subject caught on a clean background. You can feel the intensity of her focus on the knives. Your fast shutter speed froze the knife in mid air. I also like the lighting which puts her in the sunlight and the audience in the shade. Clean crop with no distracting elements. Great job! |

Good question Sally. I am unsure of the answer. This image was taken with a 300mm lens fully extended at 300mm. Technically I think that her face was too close to the plane of focus (i.e her hands and snake) and the aperture was 5.6 which causes a blurred background. Perhaps someone in the group who is more technically savvy can offer some feedback. |
