Marcus…unique camera position which adds to the interest of the winter scene. The variety of textures and the geometry of the bridge and foreground trees all work well and add to a well balanced composition. You did a great job using Lightroom …have you considered using Nik Silver Effects which give a variety of B&W combinations which might be well worth exploring. Great job! |

Vibrant rich colors of the blue hour! I like the different positions of the three birds and the movement of flight which add interest to your composition. Great job! |

Very creative Mark! A touch of black was all that was needed to ground the image and add interest to the image and lead the eye upwards. Well done! |

Alastair…a unique composition and emphasized in B&W. You managed to capture great depth of field because the image appears tack sharp from foreground to the background. The reed directs the eye straight up to the house which has great architectural interest. Great job! |

From your description of the process you did a super job! The emboss filter gives the wall carvings a 3D look and adds depth and impact to the image. Great job! |

Now that you mention that's it's a hip shot- explains the distortion of the man's leg (stance). I first thought that you had used a wide angle lens. |

Isaac… great corner composition, with 3 shades of grey in light, medium and dark! The photographer dressed in black stands out in a field of grey I like the touches of cyan and fuschia which gives pops of color to your image.
Nice capture to get the screen of the man's i-phone as well which adds to the story. Good eye!

Daniel… I like the contrast in your image … on the one hand the despair of the human condition and the calm demeanor of the man reading the credits and then of course there's the third person - the photographer outside the frame. Great image and very impactful. I agree with Isaac's edits. |

Jim.. I like the earnest expression of the boy's face and that of a benevolent FDR. His hands complete the story and from the smooth patina of FDR's hands I would think that many have rubbed against them as well. I also like your camera position and you got down low to take the shot. Nice clean composition and clear subject in focus. Good work!

Dan…Red is a difficult color to work with and keep a fine balance from overpowering an image. In this instance I thinks it works to tie your granddaughter with her red shirt and the red dragon together. The shadows add another element of texture to the image and the color palette with nature is all harmonious. Lovely memory and good action shot with her running to you. |

Lauren …the outstretched hands framing her face tell a great story. As Isaac said…you can't any more real than this. Great camera position and the rapt expression on her face is priceless. Thanks for sharing. |

Thank you Hassan for providing the original capture and for inviting comments on improving the crop. I agree that the human figure gives us the story for the image. I used Isaac's edits and further refined the crop tighter to clean up the edges and provide clean exit points to the bottom left and top right of the image. "Clean exit points" are discussed in Thomas Stirr's article and the only photographer I know of who has addressed this issue. I included a link to his article and hope you find it useful.
