Jerry, thank you for your comments. Please see above my reply to Raymond's questions. I tried to explain my technique, I admit that next time I need to take better notes. |

Joe, yes you are correct about the technique. Please see my reply to Raymond. I used 24-105 standard zoom lens and was at the wide end (28mm). |

Raymond, Thank you for your comments. I used Canon 5Dm3 with standard zoom 24-105mm lens. Focal point at 28mm. f18, 25 sec exposure. My starting point was to zoom lens immediately after I opened the shutter; that may have taken 1-2 seconds, then I left lens in the zoomed position for remaining of the exposure. . I think I misled you saying I zoom in/out. It was never both at the same time... it was either zoom-out, or zoom- in.. I tried it both ways, I do not remember which was zoomed out and which was zoomed in. In future I should make better observations and take notes.
The star effect was created by the small lens opening. I took few shots, and some of them did show ghosting (boxes and ornaments), however with higher aperture and longer exposure the ghosting ‘went away’.. The dimmer (color) lights and gifts needed longer exposure so the short time prior and during zooming was only recording the brightest white lights on my tree. I got lucky and learned some ..

Marti, nice job of selecting the flower! I like the black background, black is nice contrast to white, purple and yellow. The flower just jumps of the page. This is an excellent work. |

Joe, I like your last version with the trees. Sky and colors adjustment looks great. The mission building is still tilting. |

Raymond, I like the unusual bird composition. I also like the darker background, but I think the bird (especially head) is little over sharpen or too much contrast (not sure which). The bird in the original photo looks more natural. The original may need some contrast and sharpening adjustments, but somewhere in between these two pictures.. |

Mike, this is a very nice photo, you did a good job with color adjustements.
The iconic photo was taken by Ansel Adams. Your photo is missing a piece of iron ( ribbon) on the top. I do not know the place this cross is located. I guess it would be one of the missions around San Antonio.
BTW, I envy your backyard photographic oportunities . There is so many wonderful historical places in San Antonio. I was there once very briefly, I want to go back one day just to visit and take photographs.
