Hi Catherine. Andrew invited me to have a look. (Group 52). I like the composition very much. Head angle, talons showing, and angle of the perch. I agree with Don and Andrew regarding focus on the face. Often with a perched bird I'll use a smaller focus area and put it right on the eye or face. A faster shutter speed hand held might be a good idea to get some shots first, the go slower after you've banked some. With your processed image, I might darken the left side of the face to provide a bit more separation of the subject. |

I agree with Ally. I might also tilt the image so the bud is pointing at the upper corner, which I think would be a slightly more dynamic composition. Happy Spring! |

Good to get up early! I followed up on what concerned you to see how I might handle it. I made a radial gradient around the sun and added a lot of negative dehaze, more yellow and less clarity. I subtracted the effect from the land so that it primarily showed in the sky area. I was attempting to make more of a glow effect. |

Very pretty and unusual looking falls. My attention is split between the mountain top and the falls. You take what you can get but I bet this waterfall would show its best with a light overcast. I think a bit more detail could be pulled out of the shadow area of the falls with some dodging. I also might consider toning down the blue of the sky which looks better to me in the original.
I played with it a bit and frankly think I like your approach better than mine but thought I'd share what I did anyway. I did a significant crop, which did degrade the detail. I dodged and burned different areas and added some clarity to the white water and foreground water. |

Beautiful image. I'm partial to the color image but like them both. The vignette on the black and white looks to evident to me and gives to my eye the effect of a halo around the subject; particularly on either side of the swan. I might also burn in a bit the splashes in front of the birds chest and dodge some the dark area of its wake on the right side. That side was apparently in shadow but I would still try to even the exposure a bit. |
