It's incredible that the Great Blue and the turtle politely waited for your return! Lot's of good feedback from the others. Generally, for a stationary bird you can reduce your shutter speed dependent upon how steady you can hold your equipment. Best to take several shots at different shutter speeds in case the slower ones turn out to be too soft. Your second attempt is clearly sharp but to my eye there is too much in focus and the image appears too contrasty. I would suggest bringing up the shadows and maybe, depending upon your photographic philosophy, adding a touch of blur to the background. |

Such a cool bird and one that I'd like to see. I agree with the other's comments and am just enjoying the behavior that you captured. |

Very beautiful. I like the detail you brought out in the clouds. I think Sharon's suggestion of selective dodging and burning would be worth the effort. A bit of dehaze, assuming you use Lightroom, may also be helpful. |

Nice turtle. It was a tough background to work with and you did a good job with it. The one change I would consider is darkening down the concrete in front of the turtle which to me is distracting. |

Very pretty scene, well composed. I agree with the comments about the wonderful clouds and desire to go somewhere between the dark original and final outcome. Possibly blending the three images either in HDR or manually would work. I find that, especially with leaves that may be blowing, manually blending with masks works best. I played with your final outcome, attached. The biggest change I made was with the crop, attempting to add more relative space to the sky and remove the lower right corner where the light was very mottled. |

Terrific image Sharon. I agree with all the other comments and echo your decisions in post processing. Congrats on the experience with such lovely insects. |
