Thanks everyone. I've gotten a few more that I like at this spot. Shooting from the water is like shooting blurs. You take a lot of shots and hope you get one that works. I have gotten some that I like better than this one having learned to face the camera farther west, away from the bright sky. I'm enjoying it so much the outcome has become almost just an excuse to go out. Unfortunately, it takes a west or light wind, neither of which has occurred lately.
Sharon, I love your idea. I'm going to play with it.

Hi Lisa. I was in the water attempting to get the water line about midway of a small dome I bought for the GoPro. I'll check out the Luminar sky you pointed out. Very useful feedback. Thanks

Terrific Judith. I live everything about this. I like the way you brought out the backlighting and to pick out this composition amid the chaos is amazing. Bravo. My one tiny nitpick would be to remove that tiny little brown think sticking up from the bottom a couple of inches to the right of your logo. This would look great in print. |

I love the scene, behavior and tight crop. I normally wouldn't crop the legs as you did but it works fine in this image and I wouldn't change it a bit. It does look a bit oversharpened, especially the male's good eye. That said, I think some people would like it just as it is. Both bird's expressions tell the story and seem humorous to me. I might also dodge and burn around the bug a bit to try to make it more prominent. Very nice. |

Nice shot. The contrast is strong from the sunlight but it hits the chick perfectly. Nice behavior. |

Beautiful scene. If it were mine, I'd boost the contrast a bit. I have to say that the dead plant right in the middle bothers me but I don't think there's anything to be done about it would a good deal of work in PS. I would probably remove it. I think painting in some clarity and texture on the waterfall might also bring out its character and maybe burn slightly the edges of the left hand stream attempting draw the eye toward the falls. I like the monochrome treatment and like your crop.

I think you did a fantastic job. It looks great. I like your crop which i don't think is that extreme as shown by the feather detail. My only suggestion would be to go lighter on the vignette. My taste is that a vignette should not be noticeable. I think in this case it may have darkened around the tail feathers that are a little bit lost in the darkness. I might even dodge a bit there to bring them out. Also, the vertical leaves have uneven lighting as a result of what I assume is a vignette. I found that a bit distracting. Congrats. |
