The colors on the shell are wonderful. I looked at the rock for a long time as it looked like a creature to me. I can see eye, mouth and pectoral fin. Maybe it's a "rock" rock fish! I agree on the shadow but to me the water looks fine. |

I love this image but don't like the crop. The star of the show here is the baboon's great expression. (Love the Title too.) I cropped in much tighter, added some sharpening and clarity to the face and eyes, and did a bit of burning to darken the snout and a bit of the fur. I found an area on your image on the body that was a bit to purple in a shadow area there (at least to me on my monitor). Maybe men at a certain age start seeing purple! Without addressing the shadow whatever I did removed it. I did move the slider just a touch toward the yellow, which may have done it. Congrats on a wonderful playful image. |

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments. Larry, I confirmed that it was indeed an overcast white sky. I don't know if there is a secret other than proper exposure. I'm guessing I was shooting between one and two stops high to avoid underexposing the bird. Probably two. The brighter the day, such as with a clear sky, the more I tend to underexpose reflective whites to avoid blowing them out. Overcast helps. Same with waterfalls, where there is a lot of white water. Overcast is helpful to reduce the dynamic range and avoid blowing out the highlights.
Thanks again for taking the time to comment on out group.

Thanks Sharon. I wasn't aware about the colors. I'll look into it as I find that interesting. Just in case you can't see it there is some yellow in the water splashes, but I would leave it. It looks natural and if there was something causing that in the water, maybe the yellow was reflected to the bird. Sorry to flip on you but maybe put some of the yellow back that you removed.
My image was selected. Thanks for asking.

I like the concept but to me you were caught in between a clear image and a dreamy one. The image looks soft to me but I can't see the fog which would explain it. |

I think you told the story well, using a flower rather than a dead fish. I hope the come up with some solutions and implement them as red tide is a disaster for both business and nature. |

That's one beautiful mushroom! I like the placement in the frame which shows a sense of place, and scale. |

Wonderful image Sharon. Great behavior and I love the water droplets which places the action in kind. I might try to reduce the highlights in the area of the wings where they look blown out. ( Yhose areas are so small not a big concern.)
There is a bit of yellow on the wings which may be a natural reflection. I'd compare the image removing that cast and see which looked better to me.
Last, I would crop a small slice off the top. To my eye it looks a bit empty up there and I think a pano framing would look nicer.
Very nice |

Hi Larry. I'm traveling around Eastern Sierras without access to the pic to answer in more detail. Thanks very much by the way for the kind words. I'm sure I was shooting against an overcast sky. I'll take a look at it more closely when I get home after 10/16.
