Hi Lisa, regarding my cropping suggestion, it was just to allow a bit more room in front of the subject than behind. Not as critical as if it were looking out of or flying out of the frame, but may improve the composition an iota. Subjective of course. The more I look at the image the more I like it. That's about the most perfect water droplet I've ever seen. |

Very nice. I like the droplets and the ice crystals as well as the rich colors. I agree that cropping the left side a bit would improve the composition, bringing even more attention tot he center leaf, the star attraction in my opinion. |

One of my favorite birds and with the perfect flower that they love to eat. The drops tell the story that the bird had just captured the flower and the slightly open bill and nice eye contact make it look quite pleased with itself. The only suggestion I can think of would be to crop just a tiny bit off the left side, or if you have it in the original, add just a bit to the top. |

Nice scene and I like the composition. Based upon your description you probably didn't have the ability to move to your right, which would have allowed some separation between the edge of the rocks and the trees on the left side of the image. A nit-pick. I agree with the others that the colors look a bit over the top. The blue in the sky is dark on the right side and very light on the left. I'd try to even that out a bit to provide less of a transition. |

I agree with Judith's suggestions. Even in B & W if you go into luminosity, if you are using Camera Raw or Lightroom, you can increase the luminosity of yellow and it should brighten up the eye. That's were I would add the sharpening. I might also brighten the catch light that I can see there to add even more pizzas to the eyes. Very strong composition and I love the close crop. |

Great Egrets are beauties, especially in their breeding plumage. I like the composition and position of the chicks and the story well captured by your title. The lighting and general busyness of the background I thought detracted from the image. I played with it a bit by darkening the exposure around the bird and applying a vignette. I also painted in some highlight and removed what looked like a blue cast on the back of the adult as well as lightening up some of the areas on here underside. I'll look forward to see what you think. |

I think this is a very pretty image with immediate appeal. I live the vertical orientation anchored by the flower. I wasn't bothered by the brownish pod until Lisa pointed it out and I might take her up on the suggesting of toning it down a hair and maybe adding some green to it so it fits in with it's neighbors and doesn't distract from the flower. There are a few specs of material in the water I would remove, particularly in the leave in front of the flower. On the flower, it is so bright that it masks some of the detail there. I might slightly brush in some reduction in highlights to separate out each of the pedals a bit more. These are all nit-picking suggestions but I think it would make the image stronger. |

Thanks for the very nice comments. I've attached the untouched image for comparison. Lisa, I think the reason the feet are sharper in comparison with the wings is that the focus sensor, using a single spot, was probably on the center of the bird and the winds may be in front of the focal plane. Also, the wings were in motion which and there may some motion blur involved. |
