Thanks Lisa. Quite a thrill for me to see one of my images on a cover. The piece came out of a Birds in Flight workshop that Don Hamilton and I lead to raise funds for Arthur R Marshall, Wildlife Refuge, located in Palm Beach County, Florida. |

I like this image on several levels. I like it's graphic aspects, with the rectangular repeating brick. I like the orange and green contrast, the light and the shadow contrast and the story it tells as mentioned in your description. It has almost an Escher quality, not sure of size or direction. The only suggestion I have would be to attempt to eliminate the shadow in the upper left, which to me brings me out of the unreality the scene triggers to the reality of a wall casting a shadow. |

I like image and the story it tells. My mind immediately goes to the what each bird is thinking. The vulture looks jealous to me and the osprey a bit of a braggart, or maybe just happy.
There might be a slight yellow cast to the image. See if you like the effect if you move it a bit toward the blue.
Nice job.

Terrific composition. I like how the rocks come out of the lower corner and lead my eye to the trees. The image to me has an "HDR Look" to it, which is not a bad thing, and I'm sure what you intended. I sometimes love that look, especially on architecture and sometimes people. For me, however, I would tone it down on this scene. On the sky, in the upper third of the left side, the blue goes from dark blue to a whitish tone that may have been from the sun's rays, light clouds or an affect of the HDR processing, but it does not look natural to me and I would burn that in a bit. I might also, with a gradient coming from the right side, reduce the saturation of the blue, which looks like the affect of a polarizer. Just a bit too intense for my taste. I'd like to see this image compared with your middle exposure processed by itself and see which I liked more.
I haven't used Aurora, although it has been getting some nice reviews. Do you like it? |

I'm not sure why the image I adjusted isn't coming through. I'm going out of town this afternoon. If you get this before I leave send me your email and I'll email you a copy. My email is mykey4photo@gmail.com.

On your lens question, neither of your choices would be my go to lens for landscapes, although both would be used on occasion. For wildlife I feel the longer the better so I would go with the 150-600, assuming equal quality.
The image looks a bit soft to me and a bit noisy. It looks like color noise, which is easier to remedy than luminance noise. Maybe reduce the noise on the background and increase the sharpness on the bird? I would also lighten up the prey in the bird's bill. The eye of the bird looks to bright to me as it is coming out of the side of the face that is in partial shadow. You might want to play in PS with the shadows/highlights adjustment which I think would reduce some of the glare on the water and tone down the highlights on the feathers. I often add some contrast after using that adjustment by adding a slight S curve adjustment layer. |

I love the way you composed the fall and the dynamic appearance of the water, and how it comes in from the side in what to me is an original look. It doesn't look flat to me and I would go with your gut feelings. I'm not sure what you are referring to when you said "HDR wasn't giving me what I wanted" Is HDR a program or were you using HDR to combine images? With moving water, that may work on the solid portions and you could mask out the water and use the best exposure for that.
I decided to play a bit and did some burning of the rocks to enhance the contrast and draw attention to the water. I also added some warmth to some of the highlights of the water and added a touch more clarity. See what you think. |

Terrific job Sharon. You definitely accomplished your goal. Not much I can suggest other than to slightly brighten the bird's head and eye a bit. I think the color palate is wonderful as well as the detail in the bird's wing feathers and I think the overall scene and composition is great just as it is. |
