Thanks Lisa. Sometimes rain looks like rain to me and I like it, generally with a relatively slow shutter speed. They just didn't look good to me for this image but I know what you mean. |

Very graphic with a big wow factor. I really like it. The crispness of the leaf borders and veins and the green/blue and other colors are bold and terrific. I also think your point of view was very creative. I'm with Carol and wouldn't change a thing. |

I love the pose and can sense the motion. The water trail leads right to the direction the egret is traveling on a nice diagonal into the picture. I also love the wings, which steal the show for me. The addition of the white feathers at this stage adds a lot of interest.
I agree with the others regarding the head and neck. For moving large birds like this I feel I generally need at least 1/1600 and can often see the difference if I shoot faster than that.
There seems to be an orange color cast, noticed primarily on the bill. This may be a difference between our monitors so the comment is unreliable, but you might see what happens on your monitor if you add some blue or play with the colors.

I agree with Carol and like the intersections of ridges coming toward each other. I see your vision as well. It looks like I could make my way through the valley around the outcropping to the right. Great job making a good composition from what might had confused me had I been there. Vista's are hard for me. I can't think of any suggestions and like it just as it is. |

I like thistle's and they often have some nice creepy bugs on them. Down here they turn a pretty pink before drying out.
I like the angle and the distant background on the right However, I think the leave coming into the image from the left side is competing for attention and if the image were mine I'd remove it and maybe slide the flower toward the left side. |

I love the scene Carol and was challenged by the blue area you mentioned. I initially thought it would be an easy fish with a hue/saturation layer in those colors, masked to that area, but I couldn't get that to work. Instead, I cloned in a color mode, borrowing the colors from other sections of the rock. If it were a print, this might not work due to the detailed branches but it looked ok to me on screen.
For rocks, I sometimes use a technique that Glenn Randall taught me: unsharp mask with the amount set at 30 and the radius set at 30. I then masked out the effect on the sky and water.
I did tone down the highlights a bit too.
Last, I removed the tree trunk reflection on the lower left as it seemed to be sticking into the picture and I found it distracting.
I wish I was there, it's beautiful. |

I think it's terrific Sharon. I absolutely love the bird's position right to the ed up toes! Carrying nesting material adds interest and tells the nesting story. The only suggestion might be to work on the head a bit. The white's look a bit too yellow there and the head might benefit from a little selective sharpening. It looks sharp as is, but I'd give it a try to see if you can pull out any more detail to match the stuffing detail of the wing feathers. Well done! |
