54 Nov 24 Reply Wow, thanks so much, Bruce! What a difference that makes!
I have to admit that I added the girl as an afterthought because I felt it lacked something with just the tree, but I love what you've done. I'm definitely going to follow that up. Thank you!

54 Nov 24 Comment I love the energy and fun of this image, Bruce! You really captured the joy of their dance in a way that feels very delightful to me.
I like the way the colors of their dresses is echoed in the diner scene behind them. Their shadows feel very real and make them fit into the scene.
I thought at first that maybe simplifying the diner by removing the table and chairs in the background would be useful, but it turns out that your version feels much more realistic.

My only suggestion is that the difference in contrast between the background and the dancers feels a tiny bit distracting. I do feel that the dancers "pop", but perhaps a tad too much. I personally might consider the technique you described a while back, using the "average blur" layer at low opacity.

54 Nov 24 Comment Your images challenge me, Brad, and I mean that in the best possible way. I find it much too easy to slip into the thought patterns of the hundred judges I've heard expound when I see a conventional image. Your images always prompt me to stop and actually look and think.
You have a very powerful composition here. I love the strong circular water in the center which feels to me to be the core of the image. The Milky Way in the background draws me back to the water when I view the sky, and the receding waves do the same when I look at the foreground.
One of the first things I noticed was how your son's wetsuit is as orange as the setting sun; I think the dark rock jutting in the horizon completes the balance to his flying body.
When I see it in b&w, I like it even better, but that's just me.

If you wanted to tell a story, you could have him surfing down the Milky Way, but that would be another image.

54 Nov 24 Comment This image is enchanting, Alan! I love the richness of the colors against the black, and how the composition flows through the frame as organically as a river. I really like how the wizard can be seen in such detail even though he is in the distance, and that the windows also are clearly identifiable in the distance.
My favorite part is that you made them windows rather than cards, so we can see the windows that are behind another window. I think it adds depth and interest to this floating procession.
I think having the windows going out of the corner of the frame gives a nice additional sense of motion.
I wouldn't change a thing. Well done!

54 Nov 24 Comment I love the story here, with the squirrel scampering up the rock and the dinosaurs prowling around its base. The dinosaurs look distinctly predatory to me, as if they are on the hunt already.
The vibrant colors of the dinosaurs are intriguing - who knows what colors they were? And those colors could well blend into a thickly forested area, like parrots who blend into tropical environments.

I like your updated version.

When I look closely, I can see the difference in sharpness between the dinosaurs and the rest, but for me that isn't significant.
When I change your image to b&w, the dinosaurs feel more real to me. So even though I appreciate and applaud the creativity of the vibrant colors, I think that maybe they make it a little harder to believe in the dinosaurs as living creatures.

54 Nov 24 Comment This is such an imaginative image, Matt! It's fun and full of excitement. I really like the deep blue of the sky as counterpoint to the gold of the cathedral windows. Like Kirsti, I really enjoy the spider on the rose window.
Thanks for the description of your treatment of the cathedral. I think it looks very impressive, and that shading it more on one side than the other is very interesting.

I understand why the gravestones were added in the foreground, but at first glance I thought the cathedral was standing on a platform supported by pillars. Personally, I'd consider removing them since you already have plenty going on in the image above them.

I really enjoy this image.

54 Nov 24 Reply Thanks, Kirsti!
Yes, that dark line is distracting; I'll figure something out for that.

54 Nov 24 Reply Thanks very much, Matt!
I agree the dark branch is distracting, thanks for the suggestion. I somehow managed to overlook it.
And welcome to the group!
