Thank you, Maria!
Now that I've had some time and distance from the two versions, I agree that the framing in the second one distracts from the swan. It's always hard to tell when to stop. ;0)

Thanks, Brad!
Yes, I'd like to do something more with the swan in a different setting. I think your suggestion of something developing the upward energy is a very good one.

Thank you so much, Alan!
I seem to have a real knack for incorporating faces into my images. I never see them until you point them out, but then, there they are.

I love this, Brad! It's beautifully executed and has so much of the same feeling as the original.
I really like how you added the water to the background; its simplicity frames her so nicely.
I like her fingernails as you have them here; it feels like a wink to the fact that you have a different model. I hope your daughter loves this image.

This is such an interesting image, Alan!
I think the body language of both people makes it easy to think of a story that's taking place here. I feel as if he is trying to appear relaxed and casual but indeed is feeling awkward, as your title suggests. And I really don't think she's forgiven him for whatever caused the rift.
I really like your version with the house gone. For me, the barn does add context. It's such a desolate, powerful setting.
Personally, I would consider restoring some of the sharpness to the woman.

This is a such a beautiful image, Maria. All the soft colors go together so well. I think making the car grey like the clouds really balances the composition. I really feel the length and satisfying angel of the long long road to the house.
I love the shape of the car! It reminds me of a Volvo my family had when I was a kid. I think the fact that it's not entirely realistic works really well here; like Brad, I think it moves this into the artistic realm.
There is such a great story here. Actually, lots of potential stories, but the one the resonates with me is that they are coming home, or coming to visit their beloved family.
I like Alan's crop. I personally prefer your wide white border to a minimalist stroke.

This is such a fun, colorful image, Kirsti!
I love the flow of each color stroke, with the colors so rich against the black background. The little wings on the small figures look as if they've blurred because the wings are beating so fast.
I really like it how the small figures are similar to the large one. I think that helps tie the image together.
Although I don't see a specific story here, I can imagine this image as the starting point for a fairy tale or folk tale.
Sorry to come so late in the month with my comments.
My one suggestion is that the little figures are a bit distant from the large one; it might feel more connected if you moved them closer. |

This is really an imaginative and exciting image, Aavo! I think the composition is excellent, including the oval border. I really like the colors you've used, making the petals a more flower-like orange but still related to the original color. All of the colors - background, petals, leaves, and stem - are very compatible.
Sorry for coming so late with my comments. I find I have nothing to add to what everyone else has said, except to wish you a very Merry Christmas.

I made a few changes:
Beak on outside of wing
A few more gems for the swan to stand on
More border at top of image.
Improvements, or...?? |
