What a magical image you have created, Kirsti! I love the blue tones and the starburst and the story you are telling. I think you have the right contrast and sharpness for the girl behind the tree - she draws my eye, and it makes me curious about what she is thinking and going to do next.
I understand why you started with the larger picture of the forest, but I agree that Alan's crop tells the story more clearly.
I might consider adding a bit of a vignette. |

Thanks, Aavo.
My meaning was that even with all sorts of stuff happening around the goose, it's only interested in its distorted view of itself. But I admit that was secondary; I was mostly just having fun playing with various possibilities. |

Thanks for your thoughtful feedback, Brad. As so often with your comments, I set out to prove you wrong (no offense intended) and then realize that I agree with you. A big part of what I liked about this image was the color, but now that I've done a desaturated version, I'm drawn to that.
Yeah, I really need to come back with fresh eyes in a while to look over what I've come up with. |

Thanks, Kirsti!
Here's a version with softer colors. I have different version as well, which I will post below. I think I like the colors in my reply to Alan (above) the best, but as usual I need to sit with them a while and come back with fresh eyes to decide. |

Thanks, Alan!
I quite agree with you; I was so focused on the left and top parts of the image I didn't notice how bright that area was.
I had to go back to an earlier version to address that, but I think this works better.
Thanks for your help! |

This is a lovely image, Maria! The colors are beautiful. The way you have the tree, the girl, the animal, and the building all in the middle third of the image makes me feel that they are all connected, and the sky and foreground give me a sense of being out in the open with lots of space and fresh air.
At first I though the branches to the left of the tree could be removed but then I saw how they give me a feeling of circular motion toward the center of the image, and softening the tree overhanging the girl.
Personally, I prefer your version without the raindrops. They were a little distracting, and it also makes me think the storm has passed, which is a more optimistic story.
I like the brightness of the sheep peeking around the corner; it would have been easy to miss if it was darker. I might consider making the geese and a bit of her umbrella a little brighter as well. |

This is a wonderful image, Alan! I love every bit of the textured doorway, which is fascinating in varying ways all the way around. The woman is equally textured, both in the lines of her face to her clothes. I like the way her striped shawl echoes the bars of the gate in the dim background. The woman is small compared to the doorway, which works well visually and also suggests possible stories about who she is and why she is there in a once-grand entrance. I think your use of the texture works very well. Those accidental shot are sometimes very interesting textures.
I think the raven adds good balance to the composition. Personally, I like it in its current size and lighting on the body; the head feels a little dark to me. I don't feel it needs a shadow. |

I think this is a beautiful image, Brad! I love the layers of texture, from the rocks to the cascade, through the waves and distant ripples , and back to the beautiful golden light shining through the clouds. Your blending is seamless. I like how the splash of the wave echoes the shape of the rock in the foreground.
My eye is a little distracted by the bright water in the lower left corner, where there is no detail. I'd consider cloning in a bit of texture there. |

I like this image very much, Aavo! I really like the complementary colors of the blue water and sky against the pale yellow of the tufa and reflection. The sailboat creates the third element that draws my eye all around the image.
I particularly like your blending of the reflection of the sailboat and the left part of the Malta skyline - they both seem to ripple in the water.
Well done! |
