Great concept, Maria! I think that works a lot better than having the door further back. |

Thanks very much, Peter!
And yes, I think you are right, the horizon may be a bit off. Such a rookie mistake, but the land in the distance is not quite uniform. I think I've got it straight here. How does this one feel to you? |

Thank you, Brad!
I felt as if the tiger one needed something more, maybe something in the sky or ocean that the tiger was looking at. It just felt a bit empty.

There are so many things to love about this image. The colors are so soft and lovely. All of the elements are beautiful, including your granddaughter. You have blended Corinne in beautifully in the image. Her size looks fine to me; it feels as if she is in the foreground and the other people are in the background. Her expression feels very much in tune with the romanticism of the painting.
For me, it would be more effective if her face was turned towards the painting. One possibility would be to place her at the right side of the painting, perhaps cropping in a bit. |

I think it balances the composition much better that way. |

Such a whimsical image, Maria!
I love your little frog with glasses. It's so colorful and unexpected.
I really like the softness of your background from your helios lens. The focus comes naturally to sharpness where the frog sits.
I think the flowers add a nice counterpoint to the colorful frog.
The brightness of the flowers tends to draw my eye away from even the colorful frog. If it were my image, I might consider reducing the highlights on the flowers. |

This is very fun, Aavo!
Such a charming young lady with a winning smile! And your landscape is lovely. I really like the reflection of the rocky mass on the left.
The color of the girl's outfit contrasts nicely with the orange of the rocks, and makes her easy to see even though she is mostly behind the magic mirror.
I might consider making the rock surface in the lower right corner a bit less bright, just to keep the viewer's attention where you want it.

Great source of inspiration! And beautifully crafted, as always.
The broken instruments do evoke for me the loss of their music, and there is something very sad about them. The ghost playing the violin, separate from the instruments but still connected, reinforces that for me. I really like the way his coat blends into the shadows of the interior of the building.
I agree that a crop at the top would have made the building look strange. It also gives three levels to the image: a venerable normality, the ghostly haunting, and the broken instruments.
I also think that leaving the raven's shadow off works within the context.
My only suggestion is to evoke your philosophy of "less is more" to the ghost with the keyboard. There is, as you say, so much to think about with this image. For me, the sense of loss would be greater if only the single ghost with the violin was there to mourn it.

I think it's great you are sharing a work in progress. It will be interesting to see what suggestions everyone has.
I like all your elements here. When I first saw it, I thought I had an idea that might work. After playing with it a while, it turns out it wasn't as easy as I thought, but I've attached it anyway.
The open door feels inviting to me, but it doesn't give much of a view of what's beyond unless you move it very close to the viewer. Just a door frame might make a better portal, or a door that's open further and opening outward so we can see what it is.
Alternatively, maybe a bewildered looking person peering out of the door in the image as you have it (with perhaps an indoor background inside the door).
Or an alien peering out, with an alien background inside the door.

I do like the tiger too, though. Any preferences?
It's just roughed in. |
