Interesting! Yes, it's helpful to look at images at different sizes. |

Very interesting suggestions, Brad! I love the idea of the child fishing... I'm definitely going to pursue that thought.
I did have the watery part softer originally but felt I needed something sharper to make the fish clear, in its role as pupil. I'm going to go back and revisit that as well. Perhaps I don't need to be quite so literal.

I really like the surrealist feeling here. Your composition is very effective - the triangle formed by the three main elements keeps my eye moving through the image. The colors really work for me too.
I understand the other comments about the technical aspect, but for me the sharp edges and flatness give the same feeling as artists who create physical composites by cutting out portions of printed photographs. So, for me, those attributes actually add to my enjoyment of this image.
I like this a lot, Aavo. |

I love the sky and the waves! I can almost feel the spray of the crashing waves. The rocks give me a feeling of increased danger.
I particularly like the placement of the large rock at the lower right corner. It makes me feel as if I'm right there in the middle of it.
The clouds all seem to point down to the center rock. I wonder if you had considered placing the boat there? The boat feels much less important, being off to the side. Perhaps that was your intention.
I think your making the landscape b&w but retaining some color in the people and the boat is an interesting choice. It does help draw my eye there. I like the effect.
I added a bit of warmth in my version, but I like your b&w as well. |

This is such a powerful image, Tom!
The sky and the pavers draw my eye inexorably to the church with its open door. The church dominates the image, with that one side of the door open. I think the symmetry of the scene and dark shadows on both sides of the church make the church feel even more solid, and emphasize your isolation outside.
It feels so poignant to me that you are there at the side, so near and yet so far.
The image is filled with textures that complement each other and feel to me to be very much a reflection of your inner turmoil.
Your range of all the tones from black to white is very effective. The whole image feels very clean and balanced, which makes its emotional impact even stronger for me.
I have no suggestions other than that I hope you enter this in competitions so more people get to see it. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Alan, like you, I use only my images for all components of my composites, but as Kathy says, what she has done is allowed. I think we should celebrate each other's paths to creativity. |

Such a fun image! I'll bet your husband and his friend love it. I really enjoy that you combined the Star Wars and Star Trek universes.
The bevel and emboss processing works very well, and those little dents in the surface of the ship give a feeling that this ship's been through as much as the old guys.
The lighting on the men definitely gives me the feeling that they are actually inside that ship.
The only thing about this image that I find difficult is that the direct head-on view makes it a little hard for me to envision the spacecraft. If the crop wasn't quite as tight (so I could see they are flying through space) and the flames from the engines were a little more directional, or if the point of view was a little more up or down so I saw a little of the body of the spacecraft, it would tell the story to me more easily.
That said, I still enjoy this image very much, just as is.

Aavo, since the guidelines do not address where the content comes from, and multiple members over the years have used originals from a variety of sources, I have made the call that anyone can use any source image, as long as at least one of the originals in the final image is from a picture they took, and as long as more than half of the images over a year consist of only their images.
Kathy's image meets those criteria.
I feel it would be a sad thing to refrain from sharing with us a great image just because they don't have a picture of Jupiter or a fairy or a spacecraft.
If someone else wants to be the administrator, they can make a different decision. |

Alan, Tom shared an extremely personal insight that is integral to his image. Your comment may reflect your philosophy, but it feels very dismissive to me. Please remember that we want to give useful, supportive feedback to each other. |

Sorry about that! That was my fault; I was in too much of a hurry. I think I've got it right now |
