I like it better, too. The only problem is I did it on the lower resolution version. Now I have to do it over again on the full size one. :0) |

Thanks, Tom! I like the idea of fading the coyote out at the feet. I had tried it at less opacity on the whole coyote but I like your idea better.
Personally, I prefer masking to erasing, because I'm always going back and tweaking my changes. My approach is always very iterative. |

Thanks, Aavo.
That's an interesting suggestion. I think it does make it more mysterious but it loses the atmosphere of the original. It was worth trying, though. |

Thanks, Brad! I had not thought of the branches as being shaped like an eye, but now that you mention it I certainly see that. It does suggest an interesting larger composite... Hmmm, will have to give that some thought. |

This is a very cool image, Brad!
The sky was definitely an inspired addition. The b&w works extremely well.
This is one of those images that is so suggestive I keep thinking of what else could be done. I thought it might be interesting to have the trees extend more into the clouds, perhaps using the smudge tool, or have the clouds extend further down to make the trees more transparent as they extend upwards. But those ideas seemed to muddy the image, so I have no suggestions for you.
I really like how the darkness of the rocks and the tree trunks anchor the image, and the turbulence of the water is reflected in an airy sort of way in the clouds.
In short, well done Brad!

I think this is really great, Alan! So clean and colorful and guaranteed to haunt my dreams. That is one creepy clown!
I love the gradient of the background. The happy colors really work as a juxtaposition with the characters, reinforcing how they are the opposite of happy. I think it's great how the woman's looking at the man brings my eye back over to him, and how his upraised hands bring me up to that scary clown.
Beautiful job with the strings. Thanks for the tutorials! I am shaky on shadows, so particularly appreciate your great step by step instructions.

Such a great image, Tom! And a great title as well.
I think the green works very well, giving an eerie edge to the mystery of the words. I really like how the brick wall texture sort of mimics the words and integrates her into the text.
Could you tell me what blending modes you used? The result is very effective, and I always love to learn from other people.
This is really an impressive image. Well done! |

Well done Kathy!
Such a whimsical creature! It feels very open and appealing to me. Excellent choice of eyes, it gives me a feeling of vulnerability that's almost childlike - for me, that's what especially makes this work so well.
I love the colors.
My only suggestion is that it's a little dark for such a fun subject. If you wanted to, you could make it pop a bit more by doing a levels correction and bumping up the whites in Camera Raw, per attached. |

Such a fun idea, Aavo! That's a really spectacular field of poppies, and the grandchildren are truly adorable.
I like the way you placed the cornucopias to lead my eye into the field, and then back to those beautiful little faces.
I don't have anything to add to the comments from the others.
You mentioned before that you save each month's comments to help you develop your art. What a great idea! |
