I love the softness of the water with the surprise of the crashing wave.
I think b&w works well with this.
Personally, I would consider increasing exposure on the crane's body instead of behind it.
I was thinking it would be interesting to do something to suggest motion in the crane, e.g. a motion blur with maybe a bit less opacity. But after fooling with it a bit, I don't have anything interesting, so maybe that's not a useful idea.
I'm impressed you had a submission, given your computer issues!
I apologize for the lateness of my comments. It's been crazy busy here at home this month. |

Very cool! I can understand why you keep coming back to this image.
I really like how the ballerina's uplifted arms and leg bring my eye up to the cello.
I think the swimming cello is a true inspiration. The bubbles really make it work.
The train tracks with the void on either side look exactly right to me.
Thanks for the info on how to create the bubbles, that's definitely going into my archives.
Just a thought in the "less is more" camp - it would be interesting to see this without the piano/pianist.

Wonderful image, Neil! So great in b&w, especially given the fellows in top hats.
I can't tell you how much I covet that blackboard.
Great composition! The version without the top-hatted gentlemen does feel minimalist to me and I like it, but I do prefer the final version.

This is such a sweet picture! It makes me smile. It would make a great cover for a children's book (one that I'd like to read) or framed on the wall in one of those rustic country kitchens.
I'm fascinated by the way you've combined the stylized sun and house with the more realistic animals. I think it works really well; I'm just trying to figure out why it works so well (in case I want to try doing that sometime). Maybe it's a matter of stylized background and more realistic foreground. In any case, I love looking at it!
The texture works extremely well, balancing out the house and adding interest.
I think the sheep is a great addition; in fact, I would not mind if it was a little bigger. It might be interesting to see it with a bit less contrast, and the blacks not so dark. Maybe even making it a tad less opaque (e.g., 90%). I think the sheep helps draw my eye back around up to the sun, and helps define the eggs. It's just competing with the goose a bit to my eye.

Great concept. I love the colors. Putting the flowers against the fence with the bright green grass really makes them pop, and adds to the general feeling of life in progress.
I don't have anything to add to the comments above.
