54 Mar 21 Reply Thanks for your feedback, Beverly! I agree. Mar 20th
54 Mar 21 Comment I know what you mean. I sometimes make technical changes to my images that make sense from a rational sense but somehow lose the feeling of what I started with. Everything's a tradeoff. And sometimes a learning process as well, as we explore.

It would be very interesting to see where you take this image.

54 Mar 21 Reply You have a good eye, Aavo!
I did not insert the little faces but I saw them too. It's rather fun to have pictures within pictures.

54 Mar 21 Reply Thank you for your kind words, Brad.
Now I've complicated it by coming up with a third option.
Such a blessing to live in a digital world with the ease of keep multiple versions!

54 Mar 21 Reply Thanks, Kathy!
I think you are quite right about the background. I tried different things to make it work but wasn't really satisfied. (Though I kept it, because I love the texture of a sidewalk, which makes no sense at all).
I like it better with this wood background. I was going to mask out the more simplified face but now I like this version too.
Decisions decisions.

54 Mar 21 Comment Such a great capture of an adorable little boy! I love that smile.
I really like your composition. The diagonal leads my eye right into that adorable face and the green hood frames him very nicely. As a portrait, the amount of orchid and background you have here works very well for me.
It would be really interesting to see a different face in the orchid body, but that's a different image. I think the energy of the angle of the orchid and the way the leaves fold over are in complete harmony with the animation of that sweet face.

I wonder if the white balance is different between the boy and the orchid. I might consider playing with a filter (e.g., Topaz restyle or Photoshop Color Lookup adjustment layer) to unify the colors a bit more.

54 Mar 21 Comment Is it wrong that I keep imagining this Heinous Hyde face grafted onto the orchid body from Marilyn's orchid original? Mar 13th
54 Mar 21 Comment Such a gorgeous seascape! I feel as if I can hear the waves rolling in and smell the salt tang in the air.
I love the bird hopping into the air as the wave crashes over the rock. The water spreading into the bottom of the image feels as if it's going to splash into my lap. Just fantastic.
The light spot at top center would work for me if the mist at the joint of the two hills in the midrange were lighter to break up that big section of mid-tones in the upper left. An alternative might be to clone in a slightly darker hill or fog. Cropping out the top doesn't feel as balanced to me as what you have here. I really like the weight of the hills against the weight of the foam at the bottom of the image.

The rock is very centered on the horizontal scale, and the bird is close to but not quite in the exact center of the image. This feels a little off to me. If the rock was further to the right I think it would balance better for my eye. Or possibly move the bird and rock to the left and let the rolling waves in the distance provide the balance. Just a thought.

54 Mar 21 Comment Really well done, Alan!
The composition really works for me, with the sizes and placement of the figures feeling well balanced. I think you are right that the pretty women would distract if they were more opaque.
I'm definitely going to have to try out that cloud brush. Thanks for including that in your description! I always learn something from your images.

I agree with Neil that it would be interesting to see this with a gradient on the transparent women.
I was thinking it would be interesting to see a companion piece, with the pretty women gathered around the cauldron and the skeletons transparent in the background.

54 Mar 21 Comment Very cool, Neil! Such a great subject. That smile gives me shivers, and his eyes ringed in black are truly creepy.
I really like the way you go from profile to full face. It feels like he is becoming aware of the viewer, and turning to ... I don't know what, but it won't be pretty.
I think your lighting works very well too, going dark to lit. For my taste, the ear is good to keep in. I might consider darkening it just the tiniest bit more.

It might be interesting to have the heads on a bit of an arc, with the last one just a little larger. Just a thought which you may or may not like. I think it works extremely well as it is.

54 Mar 21 Comment This is lovely, Kathy! Such a clever idea, executed beautifully.
The colors coordinate so well, and the textures and forms really make it all look cohesive .
I love what you did with the background wall. It makes the perfect frame for the quilt.

I would not change a thing.

54 Mar 21 Comment Well done, Aavo! It tells such an interesting story.

The sepia and the heavy blacks work well with the listing boat.
I really love the bird looking on. As Marilyn said, it really works as the lonely observer.

You probably already know this, but an easy way to get rid of the halo would be to use the clone stamp in "darker color" mode with the nearby sky as source.

54 Mar 21 Reply That's an interesting suggestion, Neil.
I personally like the way it points the masts towards the pier and really creates a strong triangle of the three main elements for my eye to follow.

54 Mar 21 Comment I also have this partially desaturated version that I think I prefer. Mar 1st
