Good point - the background gets lost with the addition of the structure, and the lines of the landscape are a real strength of this image. They move my eye easily around the image in a way that complements the soft movement of the man.
I'd love to see the version with the light cloud. |

I hadn't thought of the stone frame as being underwater, but that's a very interesting idea.
I was thinking more of it as being a sort of alien portal.
I think that filter does sort of give an underwater feel. Hmm, you've got me thinking, Betty! |

Thanks!
The outer network is just the original with highlights and blacks moved to the left in the Camera Raw panel and then with Topaz Glow Brilliant Fibers II filter. I think I ran it through Topaz Restyle after that to get the colors the way I wanted.
I've seen that Brilliant Fibers filter applied to fall leaves around someone's shoes - it was simply stunning.
Interesting suggestion to go back to the original of the fish! It is something that really draws me. I might try something like this. Thanks for the suggestion! |

Do you mean the fin on the fish? It did get blown out. I could either clone it out or bring back the detail. |

Or more of the staircase original might be interesting. |

Very eerie! I love the glow of the light.
The landscape fits together seamlessly. I really like how the rise of the hill he is climbing meets the low point of the distant hillside.
The muted colors really work well for me with the fog.
I love the soft feeling of motion and silence.
I like his missing head. The dark smudge in its place bothers me a bit. I like your idea of his head being in the clouds, but perhaps a bright cloud instead? |

I really like the gritty feel of this image.
I have to admit that I didn't see the cat at first. Perhaps my eye was distracted by the window. Once I saw the cat, the composition felt beautifully balanced; as Brad said, the triangle it forms is very powerful with interesting connotations . It became a mystifying combination that really works.
One thing I do sometimes is to look at an image as a thumbnail to see if the impact of the major components are what I expect. In this case, the cat disappears for me. You might consider making some of the wall behind the cat something like the brightness/contrast of the wall behind the woman. |

It is very welcome to see such a happy and charming picture! It definitely feels like a fairy tale to me. The flower pot man is adorable and the pheasant really feels at home.
I might consider bringing down the brightness of the turquoise gate a bit. I love the color, but it's hard for me to look away from it

Great composition ! The torn curtain really moves my eye from the top of the picture to the man's face. He's got a great expression. I'd be tempted to clone the collar so as not to get distracted by the lace.
I like the colors; I think they work very well together. I think it also works in b&w or sepia, which might help resolve the contrast issue. |
