I think it might be a good idea to make her head and shoulder a bit less opaque. This evolved out of a portrait shoot, and I always try to maintain the face for portraits, but perhaps a touch less reality would work better here. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for your thoughts!
I tried it with no pier (roughed in, just above). Also tried it with a thinner, lighter post. I think I prefer this one. What do you think? |

Thanks for your feedback! I tried it without the post, sort of roughed in here. I think I like it better with a smaller, lighter post, because that gives a reason for the swirl of the water in front of the post. |

So clever of you to put the cat in the pot! There is something so satisfying seeing him looking out in that way cats have, just daring you to reach out and try to get him out.
The bug (cockroach?) is a nice touch, giving it that real arboreaum feeling.
Great composition and color, and the light is just where it works best. |

Such a beautiful image! I always want to go wherever it is that your pictures live.
That misty moon is just exquisite, and I love the sunset colors.
I think the addition of the waves really adds to the image.
You have three really interesting elements in this image, the sky, the mountains, and the waves. They are roughly equivalent in visual weight, so while I feel they work very well together, I don't know what the subject of the image is. It might be interesting to make one of them dominant. Perhaps the sky could take up a bit more of the real estate. Or those beautiful waves.
It would be nice to see a touch of the sunset color in the water.

Fabulous image, Alan! Definitely worth all the effort you've put into it throughout the years.
I love the way the train brings me in and the chessboard dead center nails it. That dress is incredible. I have seen elaborate period dresses in museums countless times and always thought them very static, but the way you have the hem draping over the chessboard is just exquisite.
I think the mountains work much better than the desert. They really play off the train.
That fishing line really bothers me. It is your image, and if you like it as is, of course you should keep it. It just seems to divide the image for me, and I itch to clone some of it out. It would be interesting to see it going maybe a third of the way up, perhaps in the middle of the mountain. Just a thought.

I love the way you added the glow of the comet onto the tufts. It really adds to the dimensional feeling.
The comet feels really fun in an interesting stylized way.
The composition has a very nice balance.
I think you've got fabulous components here and it would be really interesting to see them in other incarnations. |
