It's a very interesting concept, Brad. I like the idea a lot. I can see that it is challenging as well.
My experience is that whenever you have a person in a picture, the person becomes the subject of the image. Your son is in this image twice, but he is walking away from the larger version, so I don't feel a connection. The green between the trees on the right make triangles below his eyes, which reminds me of tears.
You might try flipping the elements of the composition. I don't have the balance right in the attached, but maybe it shows what I'm trying to describe.
It would be really interesting to see the image you talked about in your last comment. |

Remarkable composition, Alan! The three people are all connected, despite their distance and the fact they are not actually looking at each other. I think an important part of it is that they are all different distances from the viewer. I admit I don't know why it works so well, but it certainly does. All that empty sky works really well with the space between the people.

Such beautiful textures and colors, Betty! I really like how the lighter stones lead my eye from the top down and across to that burst of autumn. Great composition.
I agree with the others that the spider was a bit hard to spot. I thought it was interesting try it with the plant and spider a bit bigger. |

I think you've got some really good feedback here, Aavo.
I really like the tree and the woman. Great interaction between them. Her pose somehow echos the placement of the branches of the tree.
After reading Betty and Brad's comments, I was thinking that it might be interesting to try it with an abstract textured background. I didn't compose it as well as you did, just sort of roughed out the idea . |

Maybe the water would look more like water if it was more transparent. I think it was the blend mode I used that changed it.
My intent was to make it look like the frog was jumping in surprise instead of being stuck to the glass |

Thanks, Betty!
That's a great idea to add the water back in. I like that! |
