I'm using a kit lens and the widest aperture is 5.6 and it's not that sharp wide open. Using a 5D with 85 1.8 would have been my preferred setup - it's not the most discrete camera though! |

I like the effects and I also agree with Mark about the light and dark areas. Lifting the shadows in the black area would add some interest. |

I like the straight up and down composition, some may have been tempted to put the stone on a diagonal - this works better and the processing brings out the colours and textures. |

Does the person like the image - if yes - it's a success. We can debate the techniques, setups, lighting and, yes, maybe other advice - all that is irrelevant though x this works. |
