The straight horizontal and vertical lines of the lighthouse make a strong contrast with the structure of the background. Emphasizing that difference as Jim suggested makes a stronger image that jumps off the page. Good image and processing, Henry and good suggestions for improving it, Jim.

Your cropped version is more powerful, Jim. (I looked at the submission 2 weeks ago and couldn't understand your comments as Allen had not posted your cropped version, so I gave up. Now it makes sense!)
By simplifying the scene to the basics, you emphasized the differences and increased the power of the composition. Good work!

As always, Jim Hagan is a great teacher! While I was not inspired by the submitted image, I could only think of it being too dark and lifeless. Jim's crop is a solid winner in increasing its power and appeal, Michael. Good call, Jim.

Excellent exposure, Peter. It is truly a vision of converging lines. I like Jim's version with the off center dome, but it is still a great image.

Clever idea, Allen. I never would have thought of it, so thanks for broadening my view point.
The light does emphasize the shapes, but at the cost of blowing out some detail. Would a circular polarizer have assisted?

Thanks, Jim. I agree that your suggestions improve the image, which are acceptable in PID. I normally compete in Nature Division, where these corrections are not allowed. In order to keep my corrections simple, I typically correct to the Nature rules and take my lumps when I use them in PID. Good suggestions though. Thanks.
