Excellent teaching session, Henry. The results speak for themselves! I am sure that we all learned something to experiment with. It was 8ËšF (-13ËšC) yesterday morning so this will be my inspiration to give it a try! Thanks!

Thanks, Jim. You brought out a portion of the image that I didn't see, as I was concentrating on the tree and the reflection. Thanks.

Good job, Jim. You did an excellent job exposing and aligning the shot, and your cropping is beautiful. The extra sharpening made a noticeable difference to me. The portion you cropped off was slightly out of focus, so solved two problems with your cropping. Well done!

While I understand and appreciate your original assignment and purpose, I like Jim's reworking of the image as a photograph. It has more visual balance, detail and tonal range which the viewer needs to appreciate the image. Does it still meet the criteria for your photo club?

I like the suggestions of Henry and Jim and can't think on an improvement. I think that you captured the detail of the vertical lines of bark and trunks very well which allowed them to improve the presentation. I like the finished version, Peter.

I agree with the cropping suggestions, Allen. It is good to have enough background to set the environment, but not lose the emphasis on the main subject. I also think the green filter was a good choice to improve the contrast of the penguin with the background.

I believe you are right, Allen. Thanks. That is the type of critique I was looking for.
