Thanks, Jim. I am going to copy the image with your improvement to the desktop so I can compare the two.

Actually we had no indication that the fires ever existed when we were there on January 23-28, no smoke, no haze, no smells, nothing. So it will be Australia! Thanks!

Sorry, I had to look it up. Birds' legs have an adaptation called "rete mirabile" that minimizes heat loss. The arteries that transport warm blood into the legs lie in contact with the veins that return colder blood to the bird's heart. The arteries warm the veins. Because the veins also cool the arteries, the bird's feet are closer to environmental temperature and thus don't lose as much heat as they would if they were at body temperature. And by standing on one leg, a bird reduces by half the amount of heat lost through unfeathered limbs. Sharron's Straw-Necked Ibis shows us how it's done.

Great sculptural image enhanced by the tones of the shadows and the direction of light. I like the symmetry of the subject and I am trying to decide if I like the slightly offset version or the original version. Good capture, Henry, well worth the wait!

Good capture of a behind the scenes view. The details are excellent along with the perspective of the shot with strong leading lines, but the puddles catch my eye and lead me through the shot to the wonderful sky. Well done, Jim.

Ahh, another Ibis lover! Great shot, Sharron! I like that you went with a larger aperture to blur the background more and make the details of the ibis stand out more. Good composition, with the outstretched wing and the wing detail. You were able to successfully capture the iridescence in the monochrome image which is difficult. (I hope he doesn't mind missing a leg for the betterment of art.)

Welcome to the group, Peter.
I enjoyed your stairwell image. Very excellently composed and exposed. Your detail is outstanding, especially for a 1/80 sec handheld shot, very crisp. I like the repeating patterns and think the light reflection on the ceiling adds a nice flourish to the stark lines, especially as it emerges right from the corner. Well done.

Nice composition, Allen. I like the monochrome version as it is almost IR-like with the white leaves and dark sky. While it lacks the punch of the color version, it also explores new ways to present a traditional scene. Your timing was excellent as your next option was a snow scene.

Thanks, Allen. We enjoy traveling and had to delay a couple of trips due to the pandemic. Where do you want photos from next month?
