11 Dec 17 Comment Excellent image, Maria. Before I read your description, I studied all of the vertical and horizontal lines for any distortion and could find none. So, if there was any correction, you did an excellent job fixing it. Your image has great tonal range and exposure. Good job!

Happy holidays to you and your family too.

11 Dec 17 Reply Thanks, Tom. In club competition, this was scored a 24 out of 27 max with the judges saying that it didn't score higher because they couldn't see the eyes. Oh well. Dec 20th
11 Dec 17 Comment Tom did what I was planing to do, until I read his comments.

The monotone as presented is too 'crunchy', particularly on the canyon walls and the shutter speed is too fast which resulted in the lack of smooth water. I find waterfalls captured around .25 - .50 second are best, depending on the water flow.

By converting the 0.25 sec exposure color version in postprocessing, you eliminated the high contrast/HDR look and allowed a much more pleasing B&W image to emerge.

11 Dec 17 Comment I like the 'dreamy' aspect of the high key as presented. I like the flow of the original image from the head, along the arms and the curved rattan back to the hands. (The hands didn't bother me, but after concentrating on them, I can see where some find them objectional.) I do like the flow and the horizontal aspect ratio better than the square, so I will accept the hands to keep the aspect ratio as desired. To emphasize the desired horizonal nature, I cropped the image tighter.

11 Dec 17 Comment The subject matter is not my normal choice, but the execution is well done. To me, the B&W version tells the clearer story without the distraction of the color. The lighting/shadow and the horizontal grain of the cutting board add to the composition. I particularly like the detail and texture you were able to extract from the fur on the 'mouse' to the tiny bumps on the 'cat'. A fun cat and mouse game.
