A nice composition that works much better in B&W for me, Maria.
I like Tom's sharpening of the middle layer of the image, but it is a little too strong and too far into the clouds which makes the effect too noticeable. I would reduce the intensity to 50-75% and mask out more of the clouds.

Jim, I like the B&W better than the color. The B&W enhances the texture and detail in the image and your crop removes a lot of nu-necessary water in the foreground. I can go with either crop, but in nature we are instructed to not put the diagonal right in the corner. I think your image can be an exception to the rule. A very powerful image. |

Very nice HDR work, Tom, which adds to the detail in the bright spots and opens up shadows. I like the tonal range of the B&W version.
I have been using Aurora for almost 2 years and prefer it over Photomatix and HDR Efex Pro for its more realistic presentations. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, the luminosity masking in the new Aurora 2018 lacks the flexibility of Aurora 2017. I almost want to return to the 2017 version.

I like the complementary colors of the color version. In trying to analyze the B&W, it seemed to miss the impact and interest of the color.
My thoughts were to burn the lower left and upper right sides and to dodge the axis of the butterfly and primary flower, thus leading the viewer's eye along the stem to the butterfly and then coming to rest on the flower. Is this an improvement to you?

I agree with you on Tom's version, Maria.
To emphasize the cheetah as large as possible, I made it a vertical. I wanted its shoulder and left foreleg in the frame and some grass in front of it to walk into, then just had to work with the vertical amount that I had. I was shooting against a window as the cat walked by and was limited by my viewing distance and the window frame, so I didn't have a lot of shooting options.

I like what you did to the Cheetah, Tom. I think that it retains the menacing look with more clarity. I was originally making it look more like it was photographed at dusk. I think your interpretation is more dramatic. |

Thanks, Allen, for your comments. You properly got my intent of the dark and threatening mood. I wrongly over sharpened the grasses too much. |

Thanks for your observations, Jim. I agree that I over sharpened the grasses too much, but I was trying for the menacing look where I had a dark background. I agree with the shooting angle but was limited on on space in the window. |
