That's an interesting viewpoint that I hadn't considered. |

Both images are pleasing to me. The twirl adds interest. Good compositions, and saturation. |

Beautiful creation, but I prefer it without the words. While the appearance of the words is cleverly done, I don't think it works as a poster because not all the words are easily seen.
My second look sees the people leaning slightly clockwise. Straightening them will also straighten the big posts. |

I find your creative version interesting, but I prefer to see the softness of the original fur. |

Your creative version is so much more appealing. I think you made a good choice of filters and masked it very well. Super! |

Yes, looking at it again, those certainly are distractions. I'll work on it. |

Be assured I am not selling my D810, etc., but for foreign travel, I think a top of the line phone camera is ideal. Similarly, for shots of family and friends around the house or in restaurants, the Google Pixel is excellent and no flash is needed. Auto white balance with the Google cameras is much better than with my D810. It especially shines in a mixed lighting condition like in a church during daytime. I think the AI takes over and does an excellent job of color correcting for the wide disparity in WB. When I have a tight shot including an altar cloth, targeting the cloth for WB will make it slightly better and perfect to my eye. I'll send you a link to a show I just presented to my photo club. I only used my phone and Lightroom 6 with 2 exceptions that I note in captions. Anyone else wanting to see my presentation? Send me a note, jafunk1941@yahoo.com |

The only control for DOF is portrait mode. Anything else must be done in post processing.
The Pixel 4 introduced a telephoto lens. Noise is never an issue because I use the HDR mode. It uses the best elements of 15 images to produce excellent, sharp realistic results normally at very low ISO and slow shutter speeds. I have no interest in bird photography but I would think that would require a DSLR. The Pixel 4 is the only phone camera that allows adjustment of highlights and shadows before the picture is captured. No filters are available or needed. The Pixel 1-3 had a RAW mode but the AI is so good that it was dropped with the Pixel. 4. As soon as. The phone is connected to the internet all pictures are automatically uploaded to Google Photos and stored free, forever. So, 64GB of RAM is sufficient and there is no charge for cloud storage, of course anyone can use that free Google service for their jpgs. The |

Thanks.
If the big camera manufacturers wer smart they. Would license Google's AI. I will never purchase another pro camera until it can match the performance of a high end phone.
The Google Pixel camera gives sharp, noiseless jpgs at very low ISO
And very very slow shutter speeds defying camera and lens physics. Yes even auto WB outperforms pro cameras. Each year provides new advances that relegate pro cameras to speciality uses. Even night photography has been automated by AI! |

if the big camera manufacturers were smart they would license Google's AI. I won't purchase another pro camera until it can perform as well as a high end phone camera. It was the ambiguity or conflict that you saw that appealed to me in this mono version. As you said, the color image clearly shows that it's not a shadow. |

I think it would be great if she was looking you in the eye. Of course, the feeling is much different without the shadows. |

For some reason your new image disappeared after once appearing on my screen. I would tone down the white a bit and would prefer this image if she didn't appear to have a black eye. I much prefer the shadow detail on her face. |

Thanks for the observation. I think I'll first try local adjustments in Lightroom. I just did a similar edit on a unique, miniature cactus flower. |

I said white but what I really meant was light enough to show much more detail. It might also require opening the shadows on her face slightly? Lots of possibilities for you.
Who cares about judges? When I judge a competition, I asssume the maker made "mistakes" deliberately , for a reason that needs to be interpreted. Sometimes, it's effective but always judgmental. We need to please ourselves and be pleased when others interpret our work as we intend. |

I think you have captured a beautiful image. The rim light is perfect. I'd like to change the composition by cropping the top and left to force my eye to focus on the rock and 2 birds. |

I'm far from an expert on portraits, but I would like to see her eyes brightened. Yes, the pattern on her face is interesting, but if your aim is to show detail, I see loads in the parasol. Perhaps the parasol could be made white to better show its detail. |

I like the composition, but the location would be more interesting to me with something of interest added in both the water and the sky. It documents the bridge very well. |

I can't envision an alligator as happy. I see it as threatening, and that feeling is emphasized to me by the high contrast. Excellent! |

You were both lucky and very skillful. I think the vignette gives appropriate emphasis to the subjects. I have found that ISO is less problematic with monochrome's. Fantastic! |

My first interest was to draw attention to the swirl. I believe the petal tones were achieved by adjusting contrast and adding a vignette. Similarly, the center was brightened to emphasize the contrast between it and the swirl. |
