Lorna,
The funny part is, I am left-handed myself, but I seem to see things from either perspective. I do like your shot though, my eye just travels throughout the image more when flipped. Strange how everyone sees this stuff differently. |

I think Cindy is right, if you could get a little more on that bottom left, it would give a little breathing room, I don't think you would need to do too much just a little more. |

Cindy,
I think you a right, it is probably the memory of the event that makes the image work for me. Thanks for the honest feedback, I appreciate it. |

The Smoky Mountains is a great place to photograph, a lot to shoot from mountains, waterfalls, and coves, all within a moderate drive. I have been going there for over 20 years. Great in both Springtime and in Fall. |

I thought about this image during the weekend and wanted to add a second version, I also thought that you have too much depth of field, so I isolated the trailer and blurred the background, I didn't do a great job with it but it gives you a basic idea. Just something to think about. |

I like the grittiness of the image and the basic idea, I think you need to crop down a little bit, some from the bottom, and the addition to the trailer is not relevant to the main image. So I cropped it and this would make more sense to me. |

Cindy, You do come up with some interesting still life images. This one certainly has a lot going for it, the contrast, the textures, the shapes. I also like the reflection on the bottom, I would not change anything. Nice shot. |

Karl,
I think you cropped it a little too tight, I started with the color image and cropped it so that there are 3 old blossoms buds showing, then removed part of a blossom leaf from the stem of the right blossom. Then took it into Nik Silver Efex 4 and used the green filter setting, which lightened the background a little. I then burned in the corners of the image using the burn tool, which helps the center part of the image to stand out.
I think you did a good job at getting the background out of focus to focus on the blossoms.
This might make the image a little more interesting. |

I think this is an interesting image, I like the monochrome the best, and the clouds are very interesting. One little change I would make is that part of the white clouds goes out of the image (just a little off-center) I would clone in some of the blank skies to give a little more room for the cloud at the top of the image.
One other part is the road, I feel it is a good leading line, but I would flip the image horizontally, so the road leads you into the image right to the clouds.
Either way works for me, I just find the flip version slightly more pleasing. |

Michael, I like your crop over Lance's crop, he added too many extra items, for me I like groups of three, adding those extra parts just distracts from the image.
I like the gritty look of the image, I would add a little more contrast to grit it up even more. I would also add a slight warming filter to the image, perhaps a very slight sepia tone, it just gives a feeling of it being older.
It was great you saw and captures the old parts, it makes for an interesting image. I also think the monochrome is better than the color image. |

The monochrome is a definite improvement over the color image. You got a lot more detail showing in the monochrome image than the color. I personally like longer exposures on moving water to soften the look of the water, but your image works.
I took your image into Photoshop and under the camera raw filter I up the contrast +40, the texture +15 and I dropped the Clarity -40, I also added a slight vignette to the corners. I then flipped it horizontally so that the water is starting at the lower left and traveling right up the image. The rock was blocking me a little too much. For my eyes entering the image. |
