I too was sure the balloon was an insert. Between the sunrise lower sky, the blue sky above, the balloon (not inserted but looks that way), and the nearly monochrome foreground, the whole effect is surreal. At first, I thought the image too busy. Now, I enjoy it. |

The vast depth of field emphasizes the foreground features (e.g. foam ), which are very dark and hard to see. I tried lightening the foreground to make those features more visible but without making the balance with the sunset light seem unnatural. I failed; but maybe more effort would work. The very wide lenses on iPhones (mine's 10 mm) easily create these problems. |

This image immediately made me laugh happily. Thank you ! (I do wonder what's on the menu.) |

I very much enjoy looking at and making these closeups. Always, I have trouble establishing the right focal point. The soft central filaments in this image distract me. Possible alternatives: make the whole image soft; or, go back to the Sierras (not a bad thing !) and retake from a greater distance, with narrower aperture (e.g. f16), and then crop for just the puffball. Impossible alternative: become Edward Weston. |

Love the composition, including the smoke and the silhouette exposure. I pretty much agree with Sol, though, that birds are not self-evident: 'Til I paid attention to the title, I thought the "birds" were dried leaves. |

Though the focus seems a little un-located, I like this composition of activity in the goop. What it "really" is, I don't really care. I do know it's fun ! |
