HI Mark,
Hey ! Mark, I love the fact that you got your camera out and trying different things. I love light painting and I love shadows. Also, love the back story. A picture of your wife and aunt with the doll would tell the back story or create a memory. By making a composite you would be creating the story or a least a good memory.
As the viewer, I see a statue of an Giesha and a shadow. Perhaps putting this combo in another scene, making a composite would be something you would entertain. Altered reality or creative is where you could go with this. I not very good at that but with all your travels, I am sure you have some images that you could go in that direction. Just a thought.
Again, kudos to you for trying something different. |

HI Andrew,
As I said this is only my opinion but I find the blue to be a bit too saturated and throughs me off. Also, I feel like I am presented with a large expanse and am be forced to see a small part of it and want to see more.
So, now I have taken your imagine a whole different direction and had some fun with it. This was done very quickly but gives you some other options to think about. |

The old saying less is more. I am having a hard time with this image trying to determine what the subject is and where you want me to look. The lines take me to the pond and right back to the start. I think this is one of those images that has a few different compositions. I will try to show examples. I would also process them in B&W to emphasize the graphics. The color doesn't add anything to the image or the story. |

When I first looked at this I didn't understand what I was looking at. A figure and shadow. By making it all monochrome it added another dimension and pulled it together. However, I am still not satisfied that I understand the story.
Now the shadow is interesting. Maybe just the shadow alone or a group of shadows. Mark, I understand your frustration of not bring able to get out and shoot. I too have been recovering. I had spinal surgery on Nov. 9th and according to my surgeon way ahead of where I should be at this point. I am finally free of pain and working on building my strength back up having be immobile since July. Can't wait to get back out there with my camera to my eye! I hope you all don't mind me commenting on your images, even though I wasn't able to include my own this round. I am intend to come up with one for January. ( Hopefully) |

This is an interesting image and the light net pulls you in. (Your eye is drawn to the lightest part of an image.) Black and white is a good treatment because it is a black and white image. Perhaps I would tone down the bright spot in the water at the end of his hand. It's too bad he didn't move onto his front foot to get some separation and thus make the silhouette less blockey. Nice image. |

In this image, I love that they both have the same expression. I would crop out all the other stuff on the left which doesn't add to the story. The bright spots on the ground and background are distracting. The girl ,her dog and their interaction are the story and subjects. |

This is pleasing image. The fall colors against the cool Mountain snow is wonderful. However,I find two things bothering me and I keep looking at the image and away trying to see if I can get beyond them. I am bothered by the color of the sky which to me looks unnatural. I know in that part of the world the air is very clear and you can get very blue skies. The other is the crop. I feel like I am missing something on the left. I know the mountain is there and I want to see it and have it lead me into the frame.
It looks like I am the odd man out after having just read all the other comments. That's how I feel and sticking to them!
