I love this painting... and I definitely prefer the antique, brayer version over the snow filled version. You know in our painting classes that we always pay attention to lighting. In this image, it's the lighting that really appeals to me. The enhanced highlights on the wire fence, the bird, the beak, the eye, the wood and the background all match. The drop shadows on the bird's feet also match the lighting direction.... fantastic. You are doing so well with your paintings.
If you wish, I would change one very minor thing.... there is a halo effect on the bird's chest (from under his beak to his feet). I would use a small brush to blend that area into the background just a bit. |

I love that, once again, I get to see a species that is nowhere to be found where I live. What a beautiful subject. Your composition is great and the colors all stand out. The green background is well muted, with a shallow depth of field. However, I think the brown rock-like background is too sharp and contrasty (it is well muted/out of focus in the original). I would try to use a blur technique (Gaussian blur, for example) to blur the brown in order to match the depth of field as seen with the green background. That will allow the sunbird and protea to really take center stage. |

You definitely brought this image to the next level! The watercolor application gave this a wonderful feel and mood. Your final result is wonderful. However, if you wish, I would consider one very minor "tweek." I would either clone out or tone down what looks like a concrete block structure (at the right side of the wall, at the bottom of the right most trees.) A very nice rendition.... you are very lucky to have this as part of your neighborhood. |

I absolutely love this. Your post processing choices made this Chevy look even more rustic and rusty. It even looks like the paint is peeling. Very, very well done. I would not change a thing. |
