Hi Nancy. I saw on the Beyond the Brushes site that you were delving into "real" paint. Congratulations. I am also at that stage in the course where paint on canvas would be the next step. However, for me, that is not something I might do. I really love the feeling I get when I paint in PS and watch my original photos turn painterly. At heart, I am a photographer so I might just stay with mixer brush painting. But, that said, I cant wait to see your creations. If this "salad" is the first attempt, you are on the road to greatness. |

A great rendition of this future salad! I know what you mean about having a hard time "breaking edges." But, you handled those edges perfectly. Your choices of highlights, shadows and shading made this a very three dimensional image for me and I love that.
My only suggestion is this: I know that you wanted to paint looser, and you've accomplished that. However, the tomatoes, onion and garlic are painted a bit tighter than the green pepper. To me, the looseness of the green pepper does not match with the brush strokes of the other subjects. So, I'd perhaps add a bit more definition, shading or texture to the green pepper.
Great painting and great idea for a still life. Well done. |

Wow, the drama of the colors and texture created in the altered version is excellent. The three alligators are so intertwined that I found it hard to identify which tails go to which gators; I found that amazing. I especially like that your choices have reduced the clutter of the animal's enclosure as you now barely notice the log or the rock wall. My personal preference would have been to clone out the 1/2 alligator, as it tends to take my eyes out of the frame and away from the other three subjects.
Other than that, excellent result. |

This painting turned out excellently. I especially love how you painted the waterfall. Your brush strokes are wonderful.
Rather that painting exactly what is in the photograph, I would suggest that you paint additional trees where the blue sky appears over the bridge.
And, lastly, look at you!! You're doing great. Painting a landscape..... I haven't attempted a landscape yet. I've been sticking to animals and portraits. But, landscapes are on my list - I'll use this one as an inspiration. |

You have succeeded in creating a very ethereal rendition of this waterfall. With your final result, I can definitely hear the gentle sound of this water. I honestly love the soft painterly look you created, and I wouldn't change a thing. This is definitely a wonderful piece of art.
