56 Jul 22 Reply The brush I used is a proprietary brush from Michelle Parsley. I know you are in her class and you will get this brush as a one year anniversary gift. However, I also like using Sargeant 2017 from Kyle's Websters megapack (found in real oils). Both of these brushes give a scratchy texture, which I love. Jul 22nd
56 Jul 22 Reply Thanks so much Nancy for the great comments. This is one of my absolute favorite paintings. The original sparrow was so small in the frame, that I did not think it could be salvaged. Painting to the rescue!! Michelle Parsley and EYA even used this painting as the cover of their August 2021 in house magazine. Jul 10th
56 Jul 22 Comment I honestly love, love, love this. I love that the "alla prima-ish" or "brayer" strokes serve as the background. And their coloration is perfect, it sets off the finch so well. I'm definitely going to try this. The brush strokes on the finch and flower are perfect as well. I appreciate that the food morsel is now a better color and complements the rest of the image. I would not change one thing. And, wow, what a difference from the original work on this in 2021. Look at the difference that 7-8 months made. Well done! Jul 10th
56 Jul 22 Comment Thank you Jaci for the video recommendation. I will watch it when I get a chance. Your use of textures in this image excelled. Many times a texture can "overtake" an image. Your choices of texture and how it was applied definitely ENHANCED your original capture of the subject. The texture in this image is most notable in the sky - and I love the depth and dimension that the texture added to it. Great result and this should do well in competition. Jul 10th
56 Jul 22 Comment I agree with Nancy that the two images seem to be reversed. You are doing great with the mixer brush. The feather and tree stump brush strokes are fantastic. You kept the details in the white pin feathers on the birds chest, and even painted a great grasshopper. I'll bet that those details kept you busy for a while as well. Great painting and I love it. 56 Jul 22 Comment I love how you chose to composite these, and then flip one to make a heart. The bright colors are fantastic and I especially love the dark/black background at the tops of the fiddleheads. What a great result and a great story telling image. Jul 9th
56 Jul 22 Comment What a great vintage shot; I love every aspect of this image. And, your creative choices made it look like it was actually from a by-gone time. I love how the red gas pumps flank the corvette. It makes a really great compositional triangle. I, too, would remove the shadow in the lower right. Excellent painting. Jul 9th
