56 Mar 21 Reply Hi Nancy. Sorry for the late reply. I actually like the face painted more realistically. There are deep shadows on her right cheek which match well with the rest of the composition. And with her face being so prominent, my eyes travel from the bottom, to her face, and then back again. I wouldn't change a thing. Mar 28th
56 Mar 21 Comment Excellent rendition Nancy. I know the work it took to extract, warp, etc. Your brush strokes are wonderful. I can see all the great detail in the clothing, hat, and gun. And then, all the finishing brush strokes added depth (especially the Brayer); it seems that the model is actually coming out of the background itself. This model will LOVE this image! Mar 14th
56 Mar 21 Reply Thank you Terry. I see what you mean. And now, I even know some "violin anatomy." You must be a musician as well as an artist. Some day, the plan is to rent a "real" violin and take some images. Mar 14th
56 Mar 21 Comment You've taken this iconic scene and created something wonderful and new. I love what your treatment has done to the trees, house, bridge, and especially to the blank part of the sky in the original. I feel that the reflection of the bridge and the water, itself, gets lost a bit. I would suggest bringing back the water and reflection just a bit with your selective blending techniques. A levels adjustment (darkening the water and reflection) might even work to better define this section of the composition. Great image. Mar 14th
56 Mar 21 Reply I absolutely agree about the shadow. The original shadow looks a bit more transparent and not so dense. Great catch. Thanks for the suggestion. Mar 14th
56 Mar 21 Comment You are so fortunate to have this little guy appear in your garden, what a stunning subject. I love the canvas effect you have created, it gives the image depth and lets the Sugar Bird take center stage. And your 3+ hours of work was well rewarded, you have brought out the best features of this bird and plant! Since the bird is looking left (which is excellent, by the way), I tried cropping some of the right side. I realize that I like your original version best; my crop makes the image look unbalanced. You knew all along that you had the best composition for this Sugar Bird. Great job. Mar 14th
56 Mar 21 Comment It's amazing what "painting" an image can produce. Last month, your painted flowers gave a soft, silky effect. This month's submission is very textured and detailed. I love both techniques; and both results are excellent. For these apple blossoms, I especially love the opalescent (Terry gave the exact correct word) appearance. And the background greenery enhances the composition. My only nitpick would be to tone down the highlight on the bud in the right background. Great image, love it. Mar 14th
