Hi Larry. When I shoot at Chincoteague, I actually shoot from the car, as this creates a sort of "blind" and the birds then don't see a lot of movement. The original shot for the kingfisher was near the road and the shot was taken with a 400mm lens. I was then able to crop it significantly to add it to the painted image. |

Like Terry's image last month, this is very photo-journalistic and thought provoking. I love looking at images like this. It really gets me thinking about my place in the world and how I react to it. Great job at seeing this aspect. I will be thinking about this image for some time. And, I am glad that you are safe.
As far as the technicalities, I am glad that you cropped out the original wire on the top. I originally thought I would crop out the pole, but I agree with you keeping it in. The pole and it's shadow now create a sort of frame, with the house and it's clean up efforts taking center stage. Great job. |

Love, love, love this!!! The background lighting perfectly matches the lighting on Marilyn. The brush strokes on her hair are exquisite. The "simplification" of the dress is stunning; and now, by eliminating the glittery detail, the dress is actually sexier. The highlights and shadows of the dress are excellent. Additionally, all the lines of the dress lead me right to Marilyn's face. It was a great decision to keep many of the edges on the lighted side intact and then subdue and break the edges on the dark side of the image. You, Kalinda (and Michelle) have a lot to be proud of. |

I love what you and Topaz have done for this image. It has definitely been improved by the application of painting settings! I agree with you that the leaves and branches frame the finch nicely. But I also "see" another absolutely wonderful composition in this painting. A vertical crop around the finch would mean that the subject matter would consist of the finch, the diagonal branch and all that wonder bokeh - especially the yellow bokeh around the finch. Both versions are wonderful. |
