Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
21 Sep 21 Comment Peter, On reflection, I am inclined to agree with Joan about the dominance of the yellow noodles in the lower half of the picture. I have attached a cropped version which seems to enhance the overall aesthetic and make for a visually more dynamic image. Sep 20th
21 Sep 21 Comment Charles, Picking up on Peter's point above, I quite like the image when flipped vertically and if I had to make a choice, it would be in favour of this iteration. Somehow, it seems to be more engaging and mysterious. I have attached this version for information. Sep 20th
21 Sep 21 Reply Peter, Thank you for your kind words which are much appreciated. At the time of taking the picture, I was drawn not only to the singer's good looks but also to her juxtaposition with the microphone and the effect of the dissolve which seemed to add to the visual story. Sep 20th
21 Sep 21 Reply Bev, Many thanks. Glad you liked the image. Sep 20th
21 Sep 21 Reply Joan, Thank you for your kind words which are much appreciated. I remember well and admire the work of Nancy Springer who used to use her own home-made brush strokes usually to add a sense of motion to cars. I can't find the one I am thinking of but for the benefit of others in the group who may not be familiar with Nancy's work, I have attached one of her images from May 2017. Sep 20th
21 Sep 21 Reply Peter, Thank you for the clarification. I hadn't thought about doing that but it makes sense when doing a large crop to increase the resolution and image size beforehand. Some of the best routines are indeed the simplest when you think about it. Sep 11th
21 Sep 21 Comment Hazel, I like the way that you have used the interesting woodland as a theatre backdrop against which the 'players' are performing. It is very much the stuff of witches and hobgoblins which is full of mystery and intrigue. The three 'players' are well positioned with the witch in the lower right quadrant to create foreground interest, the man hanging upside down from a tree to stretch the imagination and the black cat watching over the doorstep. Collectively, they add gravitas to Witch Hazel's abode. Well done. Sep 10th
21 Sep 21 Comment Steve, Figuratively, I can see something of 'You the Photographer' in this picture and I am drawn in as I am intrigued by the technique you have used. The fisheye effect focuses and concentrates the attention on the street scene in Rembrantdplein and within that spherical globe we can see the psychedelic spectral colours which creates a visual tension between the real and surreal. 21 Sep 21 Comment Peter, The obvious comment to make here is 'Yummy!' This is an excellent example to show that images are all around us if we only choose to look with a 'Seeing Eye'. I read with interest the digital technique that you used to convert a simple bowl of chicken soup into a piece of art work. I like how the yellows and reds blend into each other with a flame-like effect. Sep 10th
21 Sep 21 Comment Charles, I like the artistic feeling that you have achieved with the different blends and offsets. I can understand the process by looking at the originals but looking at the finished version in isolation, it is not so readily apparent. I quite like the visual disconnects in the image and mentally I am trying to flip it vertically in my mind's eye to make sense of it all. I always warm to images that I don't fully understand and this is one of them. Sep 10th
21 Sep 21 Comment Joan, I like the initial concept of what you were trying to achieve. Clearly, the digital process involved was a labour of love. I warm to the idea of a lion floating on the clouds and the notion that it was staring down through the clouds at the world beneath. It looked pretty tricky to achieve a seamless selection around the lion's mane and and tail. I would prefer not to keep any of the ground beneath the lion's paws but to have it walking through wispy clouds. I love the colours of the background. Sep 10th
