21 Oct 19 Reply Phillipa, I often find myself being more critical of images of other photographers than my own. Interesting that you saw the writing as decorative whereas I saw it as an integral part of the composite. Hence my need to be able to read its content. Having had cancer operations in 2015, 2016, 2017 and recently spent six weeks in hospital for knee replacement and perforated duodenum, this image has particular resonance for me. In the latter operation, I was sedated for four days and then moved to the Critical Care Unit. I subsequently discovered from a neighbour of ours who happens to be a brain surgeon, that the success rate for this operation is one in ten! I can relate your image to the hallucinations I was having post-operation. In one example the ceiling was covered in an upside down jigsaw and each of the pieces was floating to the ground like falling sycamore leaves and covering everything in their path. Oct 25th
21 Oct 19 Comment Phillipa, I love what you have done to this image which has an ethereal quality that is visually pleasing. Your techniques have been well used to create a dreamy visual story that draws me in. The ragged edges work well as does the interplay between colour and monochrome. It is a pity that the writing in the background is upside down. If that was your intention then that is fine but I found myself having to rotate the image to read the text. Compositionally I wanted to see more space on the right hand side of the frame to create the illusion that she was looking into and not out of the picture. See attached which gives a flavour of what I mean. Apart from that, I like your image a lot. Congratulations and well done. Oct 23rd
21 Oct 19 Comment Steve, You have done well to create a composite which has much more vibrance and colour saturation to it than the original. It is very much a picture of shapes, patterns, textures and repetition that I find quite pleasing. A slight pity about the pink disk on the left hand edge which tends to draw my attention and to take it out of the frame. Compositionally, I sometimes find that images work as well if not better when flipped horizontally. See attached where I have also cropped out the pink disk. Oct 23rd

21 Oct 19 Comment Joan, I like the way that you have selected the grill to which you have applied your digital techniques to produce an image that is very creative and aesthetically pleasing. The image is very symmetrical which makes for a visually static picture. In order to increase the overall dynamic, I would prefer the centre of the grill either to be on a left-to-right diagonal or to be offset right on the third. See attached. I have also attached two other versions where I have used Photoshop's Filter>Distort>Spherize. See attached. Oct 23rd
