Susan, I like the artistic painterly feeling that you have achieved with your manipulated image which has a lovely tactile quality to it. The simplicity of detail has enhanced the overall aesthetic which I like very much. Compositionally, your image works well with good recession and lead-in lines and your figure is perfectly placed off-centre in the frame. I wondered whether there would be any mileage in putting a hint of detail into the lady's face to create a link with reality. I must say that I like your Original 1 image which in its monochrome simplicity has loads of punch and contrast. Well done. |

Joan, I must say at the outset that I love your Original 1 which is simple yet complex with a wonderfully artistic aesthetic. In your manipulated image, the limited colour palette has created a romantic tranquility that is quite pleasing. Compositionally, the position of the sun works to provide a key point within the field of view. It is a pity in a way that it is so bright as it draws my eye away from the wheat fields. It reminds of the final scene in the film Gladiator where the hero, after he has been slain, mentally walks through the wheat field to his wife and child who are waiting for him in the afterlife. |

Steve, I like the effect that you have achieved here where the techniques used have enhanced the busy hustle and bustle story line of the street scene. This is much more noticeable in your enhanced version than the original. Compositionally, I like the left-to-right flow through the image and the way that the bicycle wheel creates circularity to prevent the eye wandering out of the picture. Interestingly, wherever my eye wanders in the field of view, it keeps returning to the four main characters above the bicycle wheel. I quite like the lady in the bottom right quadrant breaking the edge of the frame which suggests to the viewer that there is more to see over the bridge. My only nitpick would be that I find the three bright areas in the lower right hand corner a little distracting and perhaps need toning down. Having said all this, it is worth repeating that I am a fan of Edge Filters so it will come as no surprise that I quite like your image. Well done. |
