Steve, This is a technical labour of love and you have achieved something that is both creative and unique certainly in the living memory of Study Group 21. On first inspection, the automatic assumption is that the image is a 3D capture per se but after reading your explanation it is readily apparent that this is not the case. As an image in its own right, it is quite busy and I found myself less interested in the distractions in the background and much more interested in the 3D glasses and keyboard in the foreground. I have attached a cropped version to show what I mean. I wish you a Very Happy Christmas. |

Susan, I like your thought processes behind the image to have the twins dreaming that they are behind bars and unable to get away from the wolf. However, I wondered whether there are too many elements in the picture. There is much to be said for the old adage that 'Less is More'. It is interesting how you have chosen to replicate one of the twins' heads to make them absolutely identical. Not sure whether that works for me as their hands are not identical which makes for a visual disconnect. I would have been happy with only one child in the image (probably left front) and not to have the duplicate heads in the background. I would like to have seen the wolf larger in the frame, perhaps at lower opacity and with a radial zoom blur centred on the eyes. That would have created the illusion of the wolf being a transient feature in the dream and the child holding on to the bars to try to stop herself being drawn into the tunnel. I wish you a Very Happy Christmas. |

Barrie, I quite like the graphic feeling that you have created. The image is full of shapes, patterns and textures that work together well. There is a compositional strength that draws me towards the open gate and through it to the neighbouring house in the background. It is amazing how the number '2' on the front gatepost stands out and once seen cannot be ignored. Well done. I wish you a Very Happy Christmas. |

Joan, Your homage to John Paul Caponigro has worked a treat. I love the way that the simplicity of the rolling hills leads us gently towards that raging sky. The complementary colours of yellow and blue work perfectly. The low horizon line provides a wonderful foundation for the abstract, surreal shapes in the sky. I am reminded of one of those Rorschach Ink Blot tests of yesteryear. The more I look at the image, the more I can see an elephant standing proudly. Congratulations and very well done. I wish you a Very Happy Christmas.
